    Hey guys,

I'm looking for a sound card that has a digital output that is NOT stereo only. I've looked at all kinds of surround cards (even Creative X-FI Xtreme Audio PCI Express), and they all state in the small text that their digital out is stereo only (unless passthrough, but i need surround out from my pc).

    Thanks

I'm guessing you're talking about 5.1 Dolby Digital or DTS. You're going to need a soundcard capable of real-time encoding algorithms and send the data to the AV receiver for decoding. Stay away from creative card's as most of them tend to output stereo and creative are known for their shady business practices, bad drivers and abysmal technical support. The soundcards capable of real-time encoding are Auzentech's X-Meridian, Auzentech X-plosion, Auzentech X-FI Prelude, ASUS Xonar D2, RAZER Barracuda AC-1, Bluegears b-Enspirer 7.1.
