i would have written : "what you will be missing" because now it's still not freelancer :D the finished game at launch day will be (with fps and even a bit more added to it )

right now he miss nothing, if he's not like me or some other who already enjoy what's available at the present moment...

raahhh you gave me the itch to seek if i still have my Freelancer CD somewhere...
nop
i wrote it very correct. he IS missing freelancer.
if he had freelancer background (freelancer development history too) he wouldnt feel he is missing something in alpha. he would recognized it at the moment he saw trailer and game announcement for first time.
reason for success of SC is that all those ppl that backed the game in kickstarter saw the same thing - freelancer expanded to it's true scale and finally finished.

I played a little freelancer though not as much as it deserved... and am an original backer for SC. Still feel like I'm missing something from what little is offered. :toast:

That's not to say I'm NOT excited for a real release...I just am bored with what there is, annoyed that its still gimped this much after a year in alpha. I guess I'm expecting more from less at a point in development where they can't provide what I am excited to experience.

Though they still have some fundamental issues to fix with what they've provided thus far. But thankfully they are making progress.

I'm not gonna geek out over history here. I will however look forward to the future and provide complements and criticism for present offerings I have invested in. :D

there is nothing to geek about history. it's in wiki and takes few mins to read through.
my point is that you are missing that impression that you have just touched something very very big but you managed to scratch only the surface after you've finished the freelancer. i have played multi on some community servers too and my first thought after i saw SC videos on kickstarter page was "so they gonna finish freelancer at last". you can see that spirit freelancer has everywhere in sc even in what little is offered atm.
also dont forget that even it is called "alpha" it is quite far away even from alpha dev stage. they've promised that they will keep dev process open to backers so that is the reason they went to module dev style. every module is more or less functional but neither of them nor all of them together can offer "almost ready" feel that real alpha should. freelancer spirit is there but even all modules together cant make it look like one game.
tech demo on hangar and few "mini games" are there so they can keep mouths of FORUM WINKERS shut while they make early testing of server software design.

i have tried it few mounts back when they stabilized vanduul swarm. checked it few times after and i saw there isnt anything really playable atm so i left it out and now i am just following the news about the game. when i see something interesting i'll jump back in.

I wouldn't worry about the state of the alpha atm. I'm not even waiting for the FPS module. It's the PU that is going to start making this game feel like a game.

The few zones we have are sandboxes. And in that all they offer is a chance to have a look at a very microscopic slice of SC.

The FPS module will be in the same vein as the DFM. It'll be a sandbox. With perhaps a few maps built from existing ship models to allow players to wander round, and shoot each other. It's not going to be a game, just another slice.

It's the PU that should weld those two modules together. And open the world out. Let people see the trade, and flight options, docking, navigation and hopefully some system travel as well. That is where the game gets made. ATM it's just asset generation in a sandbox for a sandbox. Expect nothing from it.

So... who all got a Reliant? Can't wait to fly it. I have 3 starter ships and I'll probably end up only keeping one which will probably end up being the Reliant... Though it would hurt to lose the Aurora. The Mustang "Shaggin Wagon" edition, I'm not so sure about.

Grabbed two - one for the combat variant and one for the news van variant.

I kinda reserved myself, and just ended up making the decision not to touch SC until there's something truly meaty and persistent worth doing. Until I can farm cash and reap rewards from arena, or until they have a full up and running FPS module with unlockables and all that stereotypical crap, I want to keep the game away from my eyes, so as not to get bored or disappointed too quickly. I still keep the game patched and up to date, I just don't play it.

Probably should pop on soon though, need to learn ship controls.

That's the way to be at this point, its fun for short runs as-is, but that's it imho. I'm eager to get to the universe module release and the Squadron 48 story.

i told you ...
Anvil Gladiator ... a place is reserved in my hangar for that one ... not that i am a missile freak nor do i love the class 5 Torpedo ... but i like it nonetheless...
View attachment 65321

really love the landing gear opening ... very detailed (funny side ... the Gladiator, albeit classed a S ship, looks almost as big as the Cutlass Black)
ScreenShot0367.jpgScreenShot0364.jpg
some fat ass torp ... well the description of the Galdiator mention that some pilote replace the torp bay by a cargo and the back turret by a tractor ... if it will be possible then it will be my salvage ship later :D
ScreenShot0366.jpgScreenShot0365.jpg

you really got to fall in love with the details they use in those ships...
ScreenShot0351.jpgScreenShot0349.jpg

also because a hangar without a Aurora is not a hangar ... i got a LN again ...
ScreenShot0343.jpg

and since the military ship event remade the Mustang Delta available...
ScreenShot0345.jpg ScreenShot0347.jpg
well it remind me the AH-64 Apache ... so its kinda a "coup de coeur" for me ...

So as I told my organization, I had no idea there was a passenger liner in the works? I was so stoked to hear that. I'm contemplating on if I should start saving up money now, or have that be my first goal to save towards once the game is released. It's weird thinking about it and I know it sounds a bit sad, but I can totally do without the dogfighting and the FPS if meant that I can simple transport people to and fro.

Indeed - the Genesis Starliner. It'll be going up for concept sale next Friday at a very high $400. It can carry 40 passengers and that's all the info we have on it.

As with all the ships you can earn one in game by playing, which is what I'll be doing as I'm spending my money on a Fury next week...

Yeah, for $400...I'll definitely be earning that one in game. $400 could buy me a serious component upgrade in my rig.

Bunch of info from "Reverse the Verse" today. Can't wait to fly the Merlin!

– Lots of stuff coming later today.

- Starliner sale will be later in the evening CIG time, getting the last set of assets right now which are the last set of the beauty renders.

- Lots of background including Tony Zurovec’s design for passenger transport.

- There are mousepads in the store! They found some extras in the warehouse… including some other random merchandise as well.

- Amazing Star Citizen Travel Mugs!

- They will be available for sale next week. $19 including shipping.

- HOTAS announcement hopefully at Gamescom.

- They can say it is looking very cool, and worth the wait

- Merlin will be one of the next ships flyable in AC, along with the Scythe, which is why they are showing off the HUD

- Working on plans for Gamescom

- Gone from 12 guys to 120 at Foundry 42 in 18 months or so.

- Working on getting AI up and running, visual side is very cool as well

- Biggest Challenge: Building huge locations, 6km long locations, huge capital ships, massive amounts of work goes into that,

- They are building big world maps right now, they are really cool

- Making the engine work with both FPS and space at the same time

- SQ42 will be a single player experience, will have co-op modes where you can play with friends

- Release date is subject to change, basically want to have a really strong experience, may have public beta near the end, but they really want you to enjoy the story

- You can play SQ42 offline totally (don’t have to be logged in)

- How many people total are working on Star Citizen total – 500 probably, including outsourcers, 300 internally

A lot of the game takes place on your capital ship, there will be other locations you visit, and lots of other stuff going on

Will be lots of large locations

So, I am in need of an analog (analogue) pad/stick for my setup. I'm using an X52 Pro throttle and a Logitech Extreme 3D Pro (I don't care for the Saitek stick).

I came across this: http://www.instructables.com/id/Add-a-little-two-analog-axis-thumb-joystick-to-you/
Looks simple enough! Software and everything is linked there. Cost about 25 bucks for the parts. I should be getting it in a few days, I'll let you all know how it goes. :)
This analog pad: https://www.sparkfun.com/products/9426
...and this controller: https://www.sparkfun.com/products/12587
Plus having to soldier about 4 wires.
I figure the analog pad is small enough where I can put some industrial velcro on the back and find a good place for it on either my stick or throttle.

Anyhoo, I should be getting the parts in a couple days, I'll update this then. :)

For those of you who are willing to play on the PTU server (Patch Test Universe, the proper patch will be up next week), 1.1.5 PTU is up! The Merlin and the Scythe are in along with a bunch of balance tweaks, stat tweaks and all ships "HP" has been increased x2.

Here's the link to 1.1.5: https://robertsspaceindustries.com/comm-link/transmission/14842-Star-Citizen-Alpha-115-PTU-Available

*New launcher too and it's amazingly fast. It's pegged my bandwidth speed cap throughout downloading.

**THE MERLIN IS AWESOME!
