Valve today announced that 2K Boston and 2K Australia's highly anticipated first person shooter BioShock is now available for pre-order on Steam for the price of $49.95 in the US and $54.95 in Europe. Steam users can now begin downloading the game's assets, which will be unlocked and activated on the release date of the retail version: August 21 in North America and August 24 in Europe. BioShock is a first person shooter (FPS) that lets you do things never before possible in the genre: turn everything into a weapon, biologically mod your body with plasmids, hack devices and systems, upgrade your weapons and craft new ammo variants. According to Irrational Games (now known as 2K Boston and 2K Australia), BioShock is a revolution in the shooter genre that will forever change the expectations for the FPS. You can visit the official BioShock website here.

No you can load the game onto your computer, hence the Pre-Loading. You can also pre-order or buy Bioshock in the future, which is required to actually unlock the game.

This means you will actually be able to play the game as soon as it is released...hehe.

Yeah...In my case, I would rather not have a CD (I like DVDs, less install discs). Moreover, I would rather never have another CD, I love what Steam does.

*Picture removed. Next time use thumbnails or shrink the picture.*

I can have my games anywhere on any computer without having to haul CDs/DVDs around (not to mention the times where...Damn I forgot my CD key.

That's around 12 years of games that I would rather not have on CD due to space. Not only that, but CDs like most of my Blizzard games become scratched over time, and then I have to buy new ones. More money and hassel than I ever want to deal with.

Steam needs some work on the offline part, cause it only works if you set it to remember your password.

Sometimes (PC crash, steam crash, system clock reset, a week without logging in) it wont stay in offline mode, which can bugger you up if you got no net.

I'm in habit of buying legit via steam and a 'warez' copy for LAN play when steam goes cranky - not the best solution, but i get my games.

Edit: and they broke lost planet with an update today, the game wont start saying yoru user account is unverified. GO STEAM GO.
