I will be receiving my parts in the next few days, and I will be installing the stock intel heat sink and fan.( it will be a month until I have the money for an after market cooler).
my question is would it be worth the effort to clean the tim that comes with it and use artic silver 5 instead? or will it just be a 1 0r 2 degree difference? I will not be attempting to overclock until I have the aftermarket cooler. I will be using air cooling, so any reccomendations are welcome

Benchmark Scores Faster than yours... I'd bet on it. :)
A couple of degrees. I wouldn't bother unless you have a problem... but be sure you mount it properly... those things are a B* to mount right.

do you already have the AS5 paste? or you plan to buy it just for replacing the stock one?
if you already have AS5 and want to improve the performance of that cooler, go ahead!! no problems thats excellent ... since AS5 transfers heat better than the stock paste...

If you plan to get or buy a tube just for replacing the supplied one, just don't... don't spend more money

What aftermarket cooler are you going to get? most cooler came with TIM...

I have about 1/2 tube left, but its 5 years old, so I don't know if its still effective or not. as for what cooler I get, I'm open for sugestions, coolermaster 212 evo is the only aftermarket coler ive used, now I'm in the processs of reading reviews of coolers.

my AS5 is more like 8-9 years old that's almost empty, worked fine in my recent laptop application, but i did shake & tap the tube randomly in the couple days before using it, i also let it stay vertical (tip on the bottom) again in the days before using it

as far as I know, coolermaster 212 EVO comes with a smalltube of paste, coolermaster paste, for CPU application you don’t need a complete tube… smal rice pea sized dot on CPU middle or thin vertical line on center will be enough!
so its you call to use it on stock cooler or new cooler!

how it was? little bit solid? let us know about how your paste was!

also about the temps and application method?

No need. I'm running my processor with it since "Feb 2014" already and I have no complaints.

Obviously, you should always pick the best option available if you can.

Benchmark Scores Nyooom.
definitely buy new paste (unless using what comes with the new cooler) - i've compared new and years old tubes and the old stuff always performed worse. i had a 7C difference between 3+ years old MX4 and new MX4.
