Stock speeds x1900xtx slower than advertised?

Okay, according the ati, newegg, etc, teh stock speeds on the x1900xtx are 650/775. but when i open atiTool or catalyst, it says 500/600. Why is this? And how come catalyst says 500/600 but requesting 650/775? Please help. thanks!

The clocks that you are seeing is the 2d clocks. When you load a 3d program, the clocks bump back up to 650/775 and go back down to 500/600 when you exit the program.

yea, the clocks go down to 500/600 just in 2d to save power on the card.

as soon as you run a 3d app, it goes back up....its like intel's "speed stepping"

it also drops the voltage the card gets as well..

2d requires little grfx power 3d requires lots of it..
