Sup guys, I have been reading and trying to find out the more I can about Delidding a Processor, mostly because I would like to Delidd mine,

As far as I now, I have to remove metallic IHS, remove any TIM and reply TIM such as coollaboratory for the Delidded procesor, then put back the metalic IHS, but not Glue it…

@Knoxx29 Told me about no Glued back IHS, liquid paste from coollaboratory would do the job,

So I would like to know if there are more tips or directions to follow, :lovetpu:

Hmm I think the point of Delidding a CPU is to completely remove the IHS and run it naked. Even with better thermal paste under the IHS, the IHS is still the main problem with heat transfer. Just be extra careful when remounting CPU heatsink and make sure you have 100% contact and you don't crush the cpu with to much pressure.

I have never delidded a newer i7 (socket 1150). But have done a q6600, a9650, i7 920, i7 950.

My current i7 is not, it is lapped though to a nice mirror finish, however my previous i7 920 was delidded and was a bitch because it was soldered.

You can expect anywhere from 5c-10c drop in temps.

How diference you can bettwen lapping or delidding them?
Worths all the work delidding it?

lapping is 3c-5c drop and was a lot of work to get it nice and shiney, however much safer. A delid CPU will do more for temps but if your chip is soldered it is not a task for meek. It is freaky holding a flame to your CPU until the solder melts off and the IHS pops off.

OP has a 3770 though, so no soldering. The Sandies were the last to have quality construction by having solder in there instead of goop.

Well then it will be fairly easy. Not without risk though, but shouldn't be an issue.

I'm pretty sure Coolaboratory degrades after a year or so, I've heard stories about it when people were still going crazy about it. I have a delidded 3770K and it is more of a hassle than it's worth IMO, and I killed my first 4770K by cracking the die when delidding, so yeah. I really don't know why people care so much about it unless going for extreme overclocks, and even then I thought I heard delidding the CPU is no good for LN2.

Is that a non-K i7-3770 you're running as well? Not worth it if you screw up, plus the added maintenance.

Personally, my 3770k gets great temps, and have seen no reason to risk delidding. I run it same as I did my 2600k, at 4.1, and I literally get only about 1 degree temperature increase on all cores at idle and at load on each core over the 2600k.

@Jstn7477: Good catch on the non-k. If that is so, then the most he can get for an overclock is 3.8Ghz I believe, and still have all cores overclocked. After that it starts dropping cores, I believe. So then, delidding is REALLY not needed!

maybe you are not that lucky with your CPU.

no it doesnt degrades.

You didn't have a choice on lga1366 i7s as they were soldered and you had to do that. No knife was going to work. By Naked I just mean no IHS, not without CPU Cooler..LMAO.

Also, if you don't have the K version of this chip then there is 100% no reason to do any of this.

Hey @peche, here's a link to my 4770k delid, here it is

It wasn't that bad and I'd do it again. But, it really depends on what you do with your CPU. Since mine crunches, it was very much worth it to me. Since you have a non-k and won't be overlooking much, it's probably not that much of a necessity to do it imo.

Fine. I am a crazy oc'ing fool that has no fear of killing a chip in hopes of gaining a few Mhz just to say I DID IT.

Fine. I am a crazy oc'ing fool that has no fear of killing a chip in hopes of gaining a few Mhz just to say I DID IT.

Not me, mine work fine just the way they are, and I can't easily afford to replace them for such a cavalier reason.
