techPowerUp! Reference Wiki launched

I setup a Wiki at: http://www.techpowerup.com/reference

The idea behind is to collect all sorts of computer related information, including guides and FAQs. This would help a lot when helping out people in forums, because you could just link to the Wiki Page.

Any feedback is welcome. If you can, help out and start adding some content.
No matter how basic your writeup is, it will help.

Wouldn't it be best to have only registered users be able to change/add/edit? It doesn't take much to register, but people are lazy, especially if they just want to do something malicious. Chances are they're not going to register just to screw around with the wiki. Obviously it wouldn't stop them if they were that determined, but it might stop the random idiot who stumbles on it, and just wants a quick laugh. Just my two cents. Otherwise, I think it's awesome.

when things get out of hand we can do this .. but fixing is only 2 clicks away so no biggie

Nice idea, hopefully it will turn into a huge database of almost everything relevant to this site.

Edit: actually, it's a brilliant idea! I think that all of the sticky guides should be added to this wiki, I'll try and do a bit of work on it. Obviously remember to acknowledge the original author, but I'm sure most people on these forums won't mind.

This site is quickly becoming a "go to" site for alot of peeps. And the more that things like this are added the better.

Always credit an author, whether they would care or not. It's polite, prevents trouble, and only takes a few seconds. Makes 'em feel good too .

Well I've put a couple of Alec's guides on the Wiki (obviously credited them to him!) and PM'd him to make sure he was ok with it (which he was )

If anyone feels like writing a guide on any Wiki tips that they have it would be useful to quite a few people I expect, I would do myself but I'm just starting to learn about them now...

the wiki concept is extremely potential it just needs a certain number of people help with getting the initial content in up to a critical mass. then a lot of people will start going to it and adding their own

Well I'm willing to add a few things. I've already written a brief guide on setting IP addresses (that gave me a real headache when I started networking) and I'm planning a quick guide on using DriverCleaner because that comes up quite a bit when fixing problems. Deathstar's windows XP optimization guide might be nice to have on there, I'll check with him whether he wants to do it or someone else do it for him (if he still looks at his PMs) but I guess any other requests should be submitted to the "Requested Articles" page.

Edit: maybe I won't do the DriverCleaner guide after all - they seem to have removed their free version. Looks like I'll have to do a guide on how to remove all traces of ATI drivers instead, someone else can do nvidia if they want!

P.S.=> If you guys find any "holes" in my stuff? Edit away, adding to them for better/more current content... this stuff changes every few years, so, it happens! Plus, like anyone? I can & do miss points/details + exceptions etc... apk
