That's not a question with an answer, since about a thousand things factor into the reply

It's a lot faster than what you have, but if you run ultra low settings with a 60Hz display you'd see no change at all.

That's what I thought... I'll just do for another 2 years. I'd rather have better sound quality than faster graphics at this point.
Also, all my games are 4+ years old... so I just don't need it.

If you run ultra low settings at 720p, and you have lag issues: Time to update the platform and CPU

If you run settings maxed out and you want better performance, GPU time
(Same with if you want to go higher res)

Sound quality can be tough, as sometimes the source material just aint good enough. Definitely focus on stereo sound over anything spatial, since so many things (like youtube) are only in stereo and then people get so confused their new 10.1 sound system doesnt work right (and 4K60 HDMI limits with their receiver)

Really not sure how well a Ivy Bridge E5 and Haswell E5 are going to handle a 3070 at 1080p......would probably be more palatable at 4K. Playable sure.........maybe at half of the $600 worth of performance you're paying for

Considering a lower SKU 6750XT was just on sale last week for $500, $600cad for a used 3070 just seems like highway robbery unless it's barely used and has full transferable warranty. BC GPU prices are still holding a bit too high, but not $600 used high. New 3060 Tis are starting around $600.

One of my friends was mulling a 3070 FE for $400, like 3 months ago. Not saying I would be confident buying a $400 FE (no transferable warranty), just saying that $600 used is not a deal.

The way the 30 series are priced in relation to RDNA2 in Canada, you'd better be making heavy use of DLSS in most of the games you play, which clearly doesn't sound like it's the case. May as well wait it out and plan for a platform upgrade too. Prices might improve once 40 series and RDNA3 lineups are a bit more fleshed out

I totally forgot about the $700 TUF 6800XT last week too. It's about 2 years too late to be buying into bad last gen deals.

Prices are weird in regions. I'm seeing 1080Ti's for $300, but 1650 supers for $500 here. It's weird.
3080's for $800 Au but 2060 supers for $1200

Second hand market is so unpredictable, it's the kinda thing you need to compare to new card prices that very moment

It's not just discord, there have always been weird bugs with Nvidia's power states, I don't know how they haven't fixed it to this day, my 1080 would downclock it's memory as well seemingly randomly. Could never figure out what caused it, just had to accept it's a thing.

The 980 Ti was/is a great card for sure, I was able to jump from one straight to a RTX 3080 FE though for just £450 so perfectly happy with that.

I like that card. I wanted the 12gig version but couldn't find one that wasn't $300 more than my 3070ti, so I went with the 3070ti and I'll stick with it until I can afford a RTX 4090 TI or I might just have to go with the RTX 4070 TI. Is it just me or is NVIDIA getting greedy over the last couple of years? It used to be a high end graphics card would cost around $600-$700. But a price of $2000 is just ridiculous. And they keep saying the 40 series is better than the 30 series and so it is. But did you happen to notice that a 4070ti has 60 RT cores whereas the 3070 TI only has 48. That's 12 more RT cores so of course it has better rt performance.
And what of the 7680 shader units, compared to the 6,140 of the 3070 ti. And the 240 tensor cores the 4070 ti has compared to the 192 of the 3070 ti. Again more of the good stuff by a significant amount thereby increasing the 4070 ti performance. And then the manufacturing process is smaller giving higher clock speeds and better power efficiency. So if the 3070 ti was given the same specs it would be a comparable product. Yes the new architecture is better, but only because they were able to stuff it full of more of everything over the 3070 ti. I still feel like I have a good gaming rig. And cudos to those who can afford newer and better. I just think graphic card companies like nvidia as well as the retailers are overly greedy and asking for way more than what the cards are worth. And yes it'll take me a couple of years to be able to afford a newer card at today's prices. Good gaming to all.

I do, I ran an i5 3570K Oc on a Gtx 1080 and it wasnt pretty. Stutter hell - and the 3070 is miles faster. Ivy isnt fit for any gaming these days...

I have some here that run well - it comes down to the RAM. If you were at 1333, that cant keep up (mines got 16GB at 2000)

I keep wanting to upgrade my 3090 ti, but honestly the ada options aren't that great $/performance vs what I have, IMO.

Vs what it would go for anyways. What I paid for this was absurd, but well, I wanted it then and I knew it. I've had a lot of fun.

I have two buddies with 3090ti that are super jello of my 4090 but still can't bring themselves to grab one.... Maybe with the 4090ti comes out lol although at that point it's probably better to wait for the 5090.

That's where i went into tweaking territory

Learning the messes of Vsync has got me running things a lot more smoothly, so 4k 60hz is more responsive than 1440p 165hz was at times
It makes you realise you don't need a GPU upgrade, you just need to optimise things to suit your display better

If your 240hz monitor has an average response time of 6.6ms to 9.6ms, why not tune for that?

In the example of the Neo G8, thats around 150Hz with VRR enabled - so why not tune for 120FPS @ 240Hz VRR, giving you a far easier job of rendering, reducing heat, noise, power consumption, and best-in-class input latency?
(The way it works is as long as FPS is 1/3 or 1/2 the refresh rate, it slides in without waiting for the next refresh cycle, as fast as vsync off without any tearing. 120FPS at 240Hz has the input latency of 240Hz, with wide open spaces to hide any small FPS drops. VRR lets it display the frame that in any part of that cycle it fits, so 60FPS at 120Hz, would give you 8.3ms of image in a 16.6ms refresh cycle - but it can display it from 0ms to 8.3ms of that 16.6ms window, hiding any microstutter)

The other option is a 4090 and frame generation and making render latency (and therefore input latency) far worse, for a lot of money
