Graphics look promising. PS4 version metacritic 75, userscore 7.3

  • Engine: idTech5 (same as Rage, Wolfenstein)
  • Officially running at 30 FPS fixed, but can be adjusted somehow via console (see below).
How to enable developer console
Command-line parameter +com_allowconsole 1
Open console in-game with the INS key

R_swapinterval <NUMBER>
  • Sets the FPS lock. Note that the numbers below are negative.
  • -2: This is the default, set to 30 FPS. This is the officially supported frame rate
  • -1: This sets the FPS limit to 60. Fully playable, although there may be quirks (we’re going to fix these).
  • 0: This fully unlocks the FPS. We do not recommend playing above 60. We will not fix any issues above 60.
R_forceaspectratio <NUMBER>
  • Sets the aspect ratio. Default is 2.5, which is our official aspect ratio.
  • 0 is full screen, but not ideal. 1.8 or 2 is probably most comfortable for those who don’t want bars.
Com_showFPS
  • Turns on id’s native FPS counter

My findings:

  • With FPS lock removed, game runs 60-80 FPS on GTX 980 with everything set to max @ 2560x1600 + MLAA. So obviously 30 FPS is no problem for most cards.
  • Changing the aspectratio to remove the black bars on top and bottom will result in sides of the scene getting lost, not sure if this will affect gameplay because you can't see stuff.
  • At 30 FPS the mouse cursor is very laggy, rest of the game plays surprisingly well.
  • I'm not 100% sure, but beyond 60 FPS it seems the game time is running too fast, will update on that
  • VRAM usage: 2560x1600, maxxed out, with AA, GTX 980, 2100 MB, so 2 GB cards should be fine too.
  • No FOV adjustment, g_fov console variable is locked :(
  • 64-bit binary only, NO 32-bit
  • Game uses around 1.5 GB system memory

How odd, is this likely to be a common occurrence from you?
I notice other threads are becoming official havens for games.

I have no idea. Noticed the lack of centralized game discussion threads on TPU, even total lack of game discussion for certain titles.
I try like every single game, checking out technical aspects, looking at whether it's useful for benchmarking and what can be done tweaks wise.

Just created this thread to see where it takes us.

Yeah, a topic of much discussion, hence why I think he was asking what was *actually* needed.

That said, watched the QL on GB and the Book of Stealth author himself commented on hitching even at 30fps on the PS4 (as well as the pc fixes mentioned by W1z)...also the FOV is awful (perhaps for performance reasons as well). I would not be surprised if the ram requirements are an accurate statement (meaning realistically a GM204 or Hawaii GPU for things to run smoothly), if not even greater...and that may just be for 30fps. Appears fairly unoptimized, but perhaps that is to be expected given the small/hodgepodge studio that is Tango Gameworks. I await to see how this pans out. One has to appreciate Shinji Mikami, but if the game ain't playable within reasonable pc standards for what it is...that's unfortunate. I wouldn't quite put them in the Ubisoft doghouse, but developers (especially AAA) really need to find a way to bridge the gap between the huge bank of unified memory in the consoles compared to powerhouse processing in current gpus.

I've just installed it....

I'll come back and say how it runs on my 780ti with 3Gb...

EDIT: lol, fail. Keeps opening in fullscreen windowed mode and crashes when i click the window. I'll restart steam

Okay - doesn't use much Vram at all....... only 1.7Gb so far and gpu that hits 50 in BF4 is at 38.... lame

Oh yeah and that's at 2560 x 1440p

Glad to hear it. Would you mind perhaps changing the FOV from Cinemascope to HD and see if that changes anything?

Don't doubt it. Glad to know it's playable for us pleebs. I returned a fresh 970 while waiting for my Vizio P to get here (apparently now Thursday because shipping companies suck); I realized I might as well wait until a FTW is in stock as it's probably going to be with me for a while.

It's from the debug menu apparently (w1z's post). Change the cap from 30->60 and change the field of view to somewhere around 1.78 (HD) to 1.85 (probably more of the look they were going for).

Okay, so tried the developer console and reduced aspect ratio to 2 and increased FPS to 60.

Frame times are 16ms and max Vram was 1.7Gb.

Thanks W1z and Void. Might have to start this later tonight.

I love ya Wiz, but I have to say this made me laugh:

Changing the aspectratio to remove the black bars on top and bottom will result in sides of the scene getting lost, not sure if this will affect gameplay because you can't see stuff.

Well...duh. :p

Obviously they were going for an anamorphic widescreen presentation (2.35-2.55), but if it's not playable closer to flat 1.85 or HD,...that kinda sucks. Yes, HD is a whack aspect ratio, and 2.35-2.39 makes a ton of sense for this type of game, but if narrowing the field of view to the most common formats breaks it, they done screwed up imho. This is a game, not a movie, and people would probably like to use (at least close to) their whole screen.

Someone said r_swapinterval 0 and driver forced vsync removed mouse/pad camera jitter while maintaining 60fps.

Also AMD gpus specific, one r9-290x user said; filmgrain -off will fix weird performance issues.

There is one really indepth here

btw game doesnt need 4gb vram buffer, far from it. @1080p max 1.8gb vram.. :D

Was 100% sure this would be the case when the requirements were released. This kind of game wont, at 1080p, require 4 freaking gigabyte of video RAM.

I might actually pick this up. I haven't ever payed $59.99 for a game though. I'm a sucker for action/horror games, and this looks like it plays similar to Resident Evil 4. Is everyone enjoying the game so far?

STEAM recently changed currency to CAD in my region, which means this title is nearly $70 for me. I was interested, but that's just too much when season's pass is considered. I'll take a "Game of the Year Edition", for sure.

I understand people complaining about the two cinematic style black bands because they must have a 24 inch monitor or less.

WIth little monitors can be painful playing with black bands.
