but its not and never will be proprietary standards lead eventually to a products demise, that is the fate shared by proprietary standards. IBM proved this as it was there own failing. Untill nvidia ports it to open CL physx will remain a tiny niche that developers add only due to kickbacks or extra help in there coding, and in general developers have slowly stopped bowing into demands, as locking basic features from opponents gpus, im sorry nvidia will never win with there proprietary standards. Till they open it up its just a fantasy feature that while awesome ;) has no relevance in the real world, its a nice theory, if physx was mainstream... id love for those features... oh well not gonna happen anyway this time around there on par as it should be.

always best for competition when they rival each other directly.

I wonder if this 590 card will have microstuttering.

Any issues that an SLi has, this will have. This includes games released with no proper sli profiles yet (or games that does not use it at all). Youd be left with a $700 GTX580 @ 600 mhz.

I wonder if this 590 card will have microstuttering.

You only get microstuttering where the card cannot keep up with the monitor refresh rate, usually 60Hz ie dropped frames. As it's so powerful, this won't be a problem. Note that you must have vsync switched on.

that review is so fail.

10.13 drivers for ati? no such driver exists, no 6990 to compare to which is its direct competition, ill leave my cons at that as i didnt even read any further after noticing those glaring issues.

time to wait for the master of awesome the w1zzard who wields the power bow down to the mighty man himself who holds the power of gpu muscle, aka time to wait for w1zz's review

looking at andantech, the 590 loses almost every bench at the resolutions the card is ment for even overclocked it seems a stock 6990 wins, and power consumption wise the OCed 590 loses to a stock 6990 and at those settings a 590 uses nearly 125w more to compete it dosent bode all that well, seems this time around Nvidia has the smaller easy to install card but in price performance power usage heat noise lvls it improves on none and loses in most, but then again id rather stick this in a case then the giant VHS tape that is the 6990 eitherway other reviews seems to vary still waiting on w1zzards review.

6990 has that 2GB edge. Its also a tad bit cheaper, and consumes less power. 590 is quieter though. Performance is a + / - vs 6990 from the looks of it.

yea but quiet dosent matter to me if im spending $700 on a video card performance is what matters is it not? otherwise if i wanted quiet id get a low power card :toast: and yes it does have a 2gb edge but thats the difference between 256bit 512bit aka standard bus sizes and using odd bus sizes and weird memory arrangments, overall give me 2x regular gpus, overclocked 560Tis will match a 590, and 2x 6950 1gig will do as good as a 6990 at least at 1920x1200, at 2560x1600 extra ram is needed, but yea otherwise in the segments these cards are ment to compete in neither really stands out as OMG WTF BBQ awesome.

Other than one doesn't blow up like the other :p
Here in Aus, there's no reason, whatsoever, to buy a GTX590 over a HD6990, pound for pound.
You're right in comparing lesser cards in SLi/CrossFire for better (and more reliable) performance.

From all the reviews I've seen, the GTX590 is consistently beaten by 6990 in all high-res and max quality tests.

I personally think that having 1.5GB graphics memory in that card is a complete joke. They would probably gain on reducing the memory bandwidth per GPU to 256bit and doing 2+2GB, given the resolutions and quality settings this card is supposed to achieve.
That or bump the card's price by some $70 (who gives, at that price point, anyway?) and go all out with 2*3GB per GPU.

It is, afterall, a card for 3 monitors and 3D (twice the framebuffer memory needed).

I guess now AMD will release a driver(magic) like they did for HD5870 with GTX480's launch which gives it some nice gains, and the games where the battleground was tipped in GTX590's favour, would get some competition

From what Ive seen the 590 barely beats the 6990. Coming out on top by only about 10-20 FPS in most cases. Sometimes beaten by the 6990.

http://www.tweaktown.com/reviews/3952/asus_geforce_gtx_590_3gb_video_card_review

SLI-ing the 590 looks like the way to go for maxium performance, but it will be hell to power pulling 538w under load.

The 580SLI and 590 are pretty close in performance, but then again so is the 6990 and 6970/50 CF.

Very tough decision.

Im no ATI fanboy, not anymore. Dont flame me, Im neutral.

Yep - keeping my 580's as well. I was hoping to see better overclocking out of these cards:(
