That's because you are pushing a lot of frames on the menu, I bet you have Vsync disabled.

what drivers are you using? if your on an 11.xx driver. Try a fresh driver clean up with Driver Sweeper and try the Catalyst 12.1 Preview drivers.

So far turning ugrid down to 7 has fixed my problems, but given that this game seems to get harder to run the longer you play I worry eventually I'll have to give up ugrids all together.

It's not a driver or settings problem, he gets flickering due to massive amounts of frames being pushed by both cards which overlay and give him an extreme screen tearing.
Have you checked how many FPS do you have on the menu? I bet it's over 300.
Enable Vsync and you won't get it anymore :)

Hey guys its coming close for me to choose my faction to join. What did you guys join. Stormcloaks for Imperials.

Why id join storm cloacks: They are freedom fights is really there only pro for me. Con is they are rascist and Ulfric sounds like a douche

Imperials: Cons for me they wanted to chop my head off in the beginning of the game, and they don't support freedom of religion and all that. Pros though is that they arent rascist and they seem nicer.

I wish since we are the dragon borns of the game that we could unite them both together, without choosing sides because they both kind of suck.

Yeah I get the flickering now but did not until a more recent driver reinstall. Now on 11.12 had BF3 crash reboots with 12.1 Preview. Mine is yellow, for the record.

And yeah both sides definitely suck but that's by design. It's not supposed to be an easy decision. And there are larger considerations at stake rather than just who's nicer and such. Such as best countering the Thalomar/Aldamari "Rising Threat".

I cant find any option for vsync. Or any other advanced option for that matter.

Edit: Framerates are pegged at 60 in the menu. And I'm running the 11.12 drivers.

Note the default ini settings aren't always right. I removed my ini files so they'd regenerate after the latest patch to see if anything new changed. Found it placed some things in the skyrimprefs that belonged in the skyrim ini. When they're placed in the wrong ini they don't do anything. Seems like bethesda doesn't know how their own engine works.

Yeah 32 makes a huge difference man, it's the closest thing to soft shadows you can get in the game. FPS hit is tiny. Like not noticeable

Reading fail on my part man, I think I auto-corrected it to "from" .

as for the 32 and getting soft shadows this is yes and no it has some good effects and some bad yes it helps remove the jagged shadows but it also has other draw backs itself namely most other shadows lose there shape and just become blobs iburrshadowmask is both a blessing and a curse at the same time.

notice the tanning rack on the right hand side.
notice the shadow under the carts tongue on the right hand side.

I like the look of all 3, 0 looks the best up close because close range shadows are extremely sharp; 3 looks ok overall, but a bit too sharp midrange; 7 doesn't look good up close (too soft of shadow edges), midranged looks perfect (usually thats the range I notice most), and long range seems fine except the really thin things like the tongue (the tanning rack seems fine to me). Too bad there isn't a screen of 32 up there, I think highest I ever ran was 9.

I think I'd rather wipe out BOTH sides myself :) SO looking forward to the CS and a mod to allow for different faction options ;)

I wonder what it says about me, as a practicing atheist, that I chose to fight against those who tried to stomp out worship....

i wonder what it says about me, that i wipe out bandit camps, strip them naked, pile their corpses in a lake and go for a swim amongst the bodies.

edit: if you throw bodies in a river, would the game engine have them float all the way to the end of the water? or would they vanish past a certain point?

Sounds like you should conduct a test.

I once fought a bandit on a log that was stretched over a massive waterfall, I smacked him off the log and he screamed on his way down into the mist. It was awesome I kinda wish I could have looted him, though I doubt he had anything good. But I kind of wondered where he ended up, I'm sure he didn't survive that fall.

Yesterday I crossed a big stretch of water with my horse on my way to kill someone, and as I got off my horse he instantly got catapulted back into the water several hundred feet to the left. I found that to be pretty stupid.
