Ray, I do get smoother shadows with ENB but at the cost of slightly pixelated self shadows on character, does this happen to you too?

I used to use this ENB Unbleak

And I switched to this one which isn't too bad HRK ENB

Don't think I've ever seen it go over 2,8GB

As for VRAM well that's another story, check a couple of page back I think I posted a screenshot of my usage :toast:

Yea not sure man I double checked I dont have the issue with my Nvidia GTX 670 still weird issue glad to know about it tho Ill see if my buddy with his 7870 can help me track down the cause.

one worth trying might be http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/23812//?

Yes I get the Same if using ENB for shadows however by using 8192 shadow sizes with ENB I was able to fix most of that however as you can probably guess 2GB of vram was not enough.

Have you found a trick to reduce/remove self shadowing on actors?

There was one in Oblivion but it didn't work the time I tried on Skyrim.

    change your shadow render distance

    on ultra it is 8000

lower it to 5000-6000 and it will lessen the blocky shadows a bit especially with higher shadow sizes.

essentially your character is in the center and Bethesda uses stencil shadows

as such as the draw distance gets larger for shadows they get blockier as the render distance for shadows is lowered they get crisp.

I use 5500 for shadow distance with 4096 secondary size and 8192 primary with ENB and it looks good enough for what it is. No worse than other modern games.

Thank you Ray, I actually forgot to retweak shadows after I redid my INI.

Had the primary shadowsize set to 4096 and the secondary to 1024.

It's much better now, to the point "much" doesn't do its justice.

EDIT: Set 8192 and 4096(secondary) with 5000 shadow distance

so i'm replaying this with all the DLC, and i've got a 7970GHz edition 3GB card due on monday.

what high res texture mods are out there that wont tank performance too much, but will make things prettier?

the official HD texture pack suits my needs nicely on my 1GB setup, it just misses a few things.

some recommended settings for graphics wouldnt hurt either, from someone who already has a 7970/r9 280x

search the nexus for TesV HD Texture pack there's a couple of different size packs 1 at 2048 and another at 1024 (lite)

Hey guys, for one of my uni projects i have been tasked with creating a short film through digital means. I decided to go with in-game footage, and i felt Skyrim to probably be a good fit for this.

Could anyone recommend some good mods that i wouldn't want to miss, and that could make this a bit easier? Such as emotes, free camera movement etc?

So I was looking through my steam library recently thinking I should at least start a couple of the piles of games I've never touched...then I sunk another 40 hours in skyrim. Lol. Spent all my free time the last few days installing mods I'm quite happy with it now. I still haven't done anything with the dlc I got last summer....lol. This play through I'm going to play legitamatly (no console lol)

Careful or you'll end up spending more time modding the game and testing the graphics than actually playing it (been there done that myself) ;)

Pretty stupid, it's why I don't use that site over the Steam Workshop.

You'd think they could put up some ads for non-member downloads.

You dont have to pay to make an account on skyrim nexus its perfectly free. You only have to pay to use "premium" servers. Idk why anyone would do that other than to support the site

I bought it like six or more years ago to support nexus in its infancy, I do think it's worth it if you need downloading a lot of mods altogether.

That is all fine and dandy but it seems like a way for a site to "sucker" in members to make it look as though they are a big site. I just don't see the need in making people "join" in order to download material.
I know a lot of sites do that but I just don't think it is right.
