depends on the system

11 tends to be the max stable but some have gone as high as 13 - 15

highest ive had load is 15 but its hit or miss. but for actual game playing and stability 11 is about as high as you can reliably go. with 9 being the sweet spot with 2gb vram gpus,

7 optimized
9 best ratio of visual improvement to stability,
11 max in terms of maintaining stability really hinges on system hardware.
13 max the game will normally load.
15 is possible but not stable, only way i can think of this being stable is to load it on an SSD raid 0 array, or in a virtual Ram Drive, where the entire game can be loaded within 1 second, to keep the game engine fed, it also requires massive amounts of CPU resources which being limited to 2 cores severely hampers, requires extreme clock speeds. 5ghz + on sandybridge even then your looking at sub 20fps, if it loads.

Well I have a SSD and at xmas I'm getting a 3 GB 580. I might give 15 a shot, def. 11. How high was your vram usage at 15?

see that makes no sense to me. my plus enchanting stuff is cheap leather. are you not going to use your daedric armor for fighting? if you are, does it not make sense to give it + armor rating or resistance or something, instead of enchanting and alchemy?

Good luck, it kind of just seems based on luck your ugrids numbers. I can only run 7, going to 9 or 11 is instant crash if I do it through commands, and if I do it through the ini once the save starts loading instant crash.

Interesting enchantments to use on armour which has some difficult to get items to create it.
Each to their own.

Grabbing some lite clothing would make more sense.
Something you could just have left in a house in a town which has a smith and enchantment utility.

Noticed every child in Skyrim is only noticeably different due to their hair and clothing.
All the faces of the children are identical.

Anyone noticed that when Khajiit and Argonians are dead their tales still waggle a little?

that's what i do. clothes would be fine too. I leave my smith gear, ring & amulet with all of my supplies in a barrel in my markarth home (shhh)

Where do you make the adjustments for ugrid? I was reading through the thread just now and noticed some of you talking about this. I've not heard of this before so I looked it up. But where are the changes made and why do you make them? Does it improve the game visually?


Also I've noticed some people claiming that Xfire is not supported and that using two cards just cause problems. Is this just for people with older video cards? I ask this because I run two 69xx in CF with no problems at all. Both GPU's are being utilized in game at all times and the game performs very well. I have no video card issues at all.

my friend is using SLI 470's without issues. I am sure that drivers will fix the multicard issues for the 5 series AMD cards.

Instead of the usual SkyrimPrefs.ini, uGrid adjustments are made in Skyrim.ini.

...and why do you make them? Does it improve the game visually?

It increases the number of grids to load by the screen. So long as your hardware can handle it, the increase in uGrids have visual improvement. Things don't just end abruptly. Can't do anything about the grass however, there's a "wall" in its fade distance whatever numbers you input. The hills, stones, rocks, etc. would appear because of the increase in uGrids though. The default is 5, 7 has some improvement, 9 is a good compromise for quality and performance, 11 is stretching things a bit (I have it set to 11 now), 13 is taxing already, 15 is possible but really unstable.

Yes, it's just for Crossfire with non HD 6000 cards. Someone in another forum I frequent too was also complaining about it, and he has a 4870X2.
