The truth behind AMD and DDR2

Here's a sad thought - perhaps AMD is only making the move to DDR2 for marketing value. The average person who knows nothing about computers will think that DDR2 is always faster, or even twice as fast as DDR. Someone could go into a shop, and ask for an AMD computer with DDR2. The guy behind the counter would explain how only Intel supports DDR2, and he will buy an Intel instead.

I think in the long run, the higher latencies will hurt more advanced onboard memory controllers.

Sad thought? AMD is moving to DDR2 because DDR has been getting phased out. Such a flimsy marking ploy would never be the sole reason why AMD would move to DDR2.

its wrong to treat it just as a marketing ploy.. ddr2 is the new coming standard.. u cant blame amd for that.. u also cant blame em just cos ddr2 at 600 aint any better than ddr at 400.. that is just how it is..

it has been suggested that amd could have brought out the ddr2 platform some months back.. they held back in the vain hope that ddr2 latencies might improve and the ddr2 prices would drop in general so as to make the platform more attractive to the punter..

as ddr2 gets faster and cheaper some benifits might be seen.. as of now dont expect any.. its not amds fault thow..

You can't top OCZ's top of the line platinum DDR. It definitely has some life in it.

You just know that AMD is getting hammered, look at there stock, I know Intel droped a little to but alot of the anaylist that drive the market(some people say) Say that AMD is not doing so hot..eeehhh w/e i just can't wait for Conroe, that the next build that im plaining for.
