I've been wondering does anyone still use peltier cooling? from what I remembered peltier cooling is very inefficient in terms of power consumption vs performance. now is that still hold true? and are there better options out there?

Certainly seems like it's fallen out of favor. While you can squeeze more out of a CPU with sub-ambient cooling, it's usually not significant enough for justify the cost, power, or possible side-effects of those solutions. At least, not when the goal is long-term every-day cooling.

Found that here. Personally I'd be much happier with a good air cooler getting a stable 4502Mhz in the system I use everyday or putting together a water-cooling loop (not so much for the Mhz, but for the looks).

Noted, that's what i figured. I found the tec i picked up years ago didn't know if it was worth putting into a 24/7 or not.

I got a Thermaltake Water Pro on the video card and a Water Extreme on the CPU but seems like the video card can use a little more cooling. Just don't feel like building a full loop again.

The problem with Peltier cooling, and I suspect why it's not as popular as other methods, is it is so efficient at transferring heat you actually need a very good cooling system just to cool the hot side of the Peltier chip.

For this reason it would be best implemented as an all in one system where the chip is part of a more elaborate cooling system, but that of course ups the price considerably.

Also peltier units from eBay are bad quality. Buy from a peltier company site.

Another thing, get a thermostat controller meant for peltier units. They are cheap on ebay. They stop the melt downs and costs like 20 dollar's.

Keep in mind that if the peltier fails, without heat probes and thermostat. Then it will boil the cpu up to a few hundred C. Iv seen melted mobos before.

Also u should watercool the hot side of the cooler. air coolers aren't strong enaugh

300-700 watt peltier setups is normal. U can get to 700 when you Make pyramid

as @AsRock knows first had when a Peltier fails they tend to go thermal-nuclear
redundant thermal safety's are a MUST when playing with a Peltier else you will end up with a smoldering pile of worthless melted plastic and silicon

I used one years and years ago on my Celeron 200mhz chip. It worked really well until it failed. Luckily, 1/2 of the surface kept cool, while the other 1/2 went into meltdown so nothing died. I wouldn't use one on a piece of kit that I cared about.

Saying that, didn't coolermaster realase the V10 or V12 that had an integrated TEC?
