i've been thinking about upgrading for a bit and my evga is starting to crap out I think, my sounds spotty lately and its already 4 years old almost 5 if I remember correctly.

I want to be a badass and get x79 but it's just to pricey.

    Id need a new:
    1) CPU
    2) Motherboard (if ATX see 4)
    3) Ram
    4) Case
    5) CPU cooler. > Most likely will have to get a new one since i'll probably move the i7 system into my other system as it's server

I listen to music a lot. I like flac audio and everything is ripped with 320Kbps, I have Grado headphones but I do need an amp.

I do play games quite a bit and i'll be keeping my dual 5850's for now. I do on occasion edit some videos or edit music but it's rare, photos on occasion as well. I will be virtuatlizing software through VMWare for school and general internet browsing of course.

As far as what will be reusied: drives, video cards, and power supply.

Budget I was thinking around $500 but could go a bit over.

I haven't payed attention in quite a while to what the hot trend is, I know ivy bridge and intel and that's about it. So suggestions ?

I've been wanting to get back to a mid size or a full size tower, so i'm not opposed to buying a new case, but Im not opposed to staying mATX either. I will not need addition slots if I stay with mATX, if I go back to ATX i'll need at least an additional pci-e for a addon sata card.

Now i'm willing to sell the majority of what I have now (including the second rig minus drives) to consolidate my machines so I've got plenty of options here.

Thanks man! I just haven't kept up with who has better what right now. I know intel is in the lead, I know AMD has decided to not produce any GPU's upcoming and I know nvidia just pooped out the Titan.

    But any inputs are appreciated.

Might be worth waiting a little while longer until Haswell comes out given that you can wait that long. If you are getting a new system I would without a doubt recommend the low profile 16GB Samsung RAM Kit I'm using as that would be perfect with almost any system these days and there is a lot of room for overclocking too.

Those appear to be out of stock at newegg. heh, but if Haswell is going to be better, then I could plan on those.

Is Haswll going to be any extra over current Ivy Bridge? Do we have a roadmap with prices on it /sockets?
