Thinking of buying a new monitor with the Christmas money

I have an old HP 17" with a 300:1 contrast ratio and 25ms response, so yeah....

I'm looking at this Acer 22" right now.

I heard some rumors about monitors being on sale in January. Is there any truth to that? Is right now as good as any other time to buy one?

I like the Samsung personly. Mines been great just wish it was bigger like 24" lol..
This one has 904 positive reviews too. As for the rebate i got mine when i got my 204b + 3 extra months.

What does it mean to have a monitor that is 6-bit, and how does that compare to an 8-bit?

Just have to pop in here to say my experience with Acer lcd's

The store i work at purchased 4 acer 19' lcd at the same time,so far,all 4 have had to be RMA'd.Then to top it off,one of the RMA'd lcd's had to be RMA'd. :laugh:

Excellant customer service though(i spose they have lots of practice).
IMO,get samsung or LG. :toast:

I would rather get the Samsung, but $300+ is too much for me. However, the Samsung 226BW is really nice, and with the $40 mail-in rebate I am considering it.

I need to understand what a 6-bit monitor means, and how it compares to an 8-bit monitor.

We have over the last year had a few 22' Acers at work. Been like a dream no dead pixs or anything.

By any chance, is a Compusa near you? I was at mine today and the Samsungs were at pretty good price...
I second that Demulta. I've never seen a problem with anything Acer. Family has laptops and monitors and everything is good.

Apparently 6-bit is fine for gaming, and that's fine with me. I do some Photoshop work, but if I had no problems on my current, this new one will surely be fine.

Soooooo... I think I'm gonna go with the Samsung 226BW. Does Newegg have the best deal right now? Should I wait a week for sales?

be carefull with tn panels, I would suggest for you to look through thin

I almost got a 24" tn panel monitor, what happens with those is that they get darker the father you are from the screen, so around the edges the pixels will appear darker if you get anything over a 21", that is why there is an increasing number of MVA, IPS, ect. panels being made for monitors as you go up the size scale, also about the 6bit color, with photoshop it does look better with true 8-bit color.

I have a Samsung monitor and I haven't regretted it at all.
(The Syncmaster 225BW if you wanted to know, so yours will be much better

with higher viewing angles comes the need of buying better panels, a TN panel has 160/160 viewing angle, but the vertical angle is horrible, when you look at it from like 10 cm lower you see shadows coming across the screen, so forget about watching something from the comfort of your bed, youll need to be right up close to it to see its true 6-bit color.

I have 22" Acer monitor and had a 19" in the past. I never been disappointed with acer, good quality screens, and as far as the prices go it seems like the best deal.
