Thoughts on this mother board

I don't care what it is, it could be a single core :laugh:

I was just thinking maybe even getting a cheap Celeron D (£38 new) and using it as another back up system or something, or then if i did that, i could sell all my current rig & then upgrade to a Q9300 or something.

Yah know, in benches with the e5200 I am matching the 6400+. Wouldn't be worthwhile tho. Maybe a Celeron 440 would be in order for the board.

I cant seem to find the Celeron 440 in the shops i use, but i'[ve seen a Celeron E1400 also at £38

... quite respectable pricing wouldn't you say?

Not bad if your building just as a crunching rig. Mind you those chips can do 3.2Ghz CLOSE to stock volts and stay relatively cool under stock also. It would be a hair under your 6400+.

not really, expect to pay 40 for an e2140, which has double the cache, if you really want to put your current cpu to shame, get a Q6600, a used one here on TPU you should be able to find one for a very reasonable price.

I got a 965P-DS3 board and it stills kicks ass. Also I never had any problems with Gigabyte. Recently I took my 6850 out and flash bios and put an e8400 in it. Now runs 3.8 24/7 gave it new life.

i had the 965p ds3p rev3.3 that is the same board exept it has less cooling and less voltage regulators for the cpu and it was a very very good board.

i never had any stability problems with it but 45nm cpus are NOT officialy supported on the 965p chipset but gigabyte does a beta bios that supports it on the rev 2.0 and 3.3 so find out what revision board you have and update the bios before buying a new cpu.

I'm not after anything special by any means never mind my current rig. but for £40... if you could point me in the right direction to someone who might be selling one on here at TPU then im all for the E2140, as i've not seen them in any of the shops i go to, also will need to double check the cpu support list for that model, but sounds cool

Erm... i've looked up the cpu support list and 45nm chips are supported. not all, but a nice and more than fair amount

and my board revision is 1.0

So overall I have a nice board

There is one thing i've noticed on the board though, besides the 24pin + 8pin power connectors plus there is a 4pin molex on the board aswel, any insight to why this is and if i should use it?

The molex is for power to the pci-e connectors i think,its only needed if you use xfire/sli i think.

I have one on my board I dont really use it. I plugged a fan into for a while. I never thought about it as a power source for my card
