whats the best options for my money i5 or am3 rig ?

amd x6 1055T then oc it ? or i5 750 and oc

will need some ddr3 ram whats the good stuff to get only need 4gb atm

i5/7 prices are getting down there - from a decade long AMD supporter - if ever there was a time to go intel it is now.
AM3 is good - but if you want the best performance and are willing to spend 10-15% more then go intel... at least for the next year or so I don't see that changing...
also 6 cores will do nothing for you unless you will actually utilize them. no single game or program really will, so unless you do 15 CPU intensive things at once there is no need yet...

as for graphics, there you want to go red. good choice, I love my 5850s. make sure to get reference if you want to OC .... and it is preferred even if you don't want to.

RAM i went with corsair XMS3, really good... most corsair is, even valueselect also G.skill makes good RAM.

I would wait till Intel's Sandy-Bridge and AMD's Buldozer and see what they have to offer ... hopefully both will be out within another 6months ... ;) ... and also wait till ATi .. oops ... AMD release the 6xxx series cards ... :D

Unless you like integrated graphics, the performance, non-integrated stuff won't be out till start of summer next year.

Imo, find a 920 D0 and a good board of the FS/FT forum and get yourself a pair of GTX 460s. About as rockin' as it can get.

I think the i5 would be your best bet, especially for gaming.

As for the 5850, it's a great card, but AMD will be relasing thre 6 series line of cards in the coming months, so you could always wait for them and see if it's something worth picking up. And if not, the 5850 should be even cheaper by then.

Just a tip, unless you are addicted to hardware like the rest of us, you might not need to upgrade just yet. I am a person who won't upgrade until his computer cannot play a game I want to. If you are getting to this point, by all means upgrade.

For the money, the i5 and performance is the way to go. Also, by your 4870 slowly dying you mean what? My 4850 died from too much folding! For the card, hold off till the 6xxx series!

so far south you wouldn't understand
well if you want to upgrade now i'd say get an old 790 am2+ board that supports an am3 slot in a 1055 and something along a 5850/gtx 470 wait til next year buy an am3+ board and ddr3 and maybe a second card keep your 1055 till bulldozer is settled and grab one
