Good idea.

It would be interesting to do my graphics card poll on the frontpage.Its interesting to see how the state of play is over a possibly larger number of people than mine did.

I like the idea of front page polls.

As far as questions, you could start a thread that asks people for suggestions.
I personally like the idea of it being tech related and not political or current event.
Since those type of topics are always relegated to GN and do not appear on the front page recent posts lists, it seems inappropriate that we should have that type of stuff in polls on the front page.

Just my 2 cents.

I like the polls! As for topics, the amount of votes will tell you what topics forum users are interested in.

I don't like the poll options though. There should be an option that reads "Third Party Candidate" or "Someone Else", because some of us care but don't like Obama or McCain. Also, political polls like this one tend to pander to the U.S. members, and make the rest members feel left out.

Not a big fan of it myself. Makes the forum look like it has the "CLICK ME, YOU JUST WON A FREE XBOX 360, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD CLICK ME!!!!!!!!!" type ads. I usually associate the polls with those types of ads, and never click them. I mean, it's a tech forum, who cares about the president?

i would feel left out if it was just hardware and such... i don't know much about comps...only joined for crazy pic thread ..maybe others ppls views on different thing happening around the would and some computer related polls?? for example like stocks...kids shooting ppl randomly and how is effecting everyone being scared to death to walk the streets..i donno...just something different once in a while??

Did you notice a prime difference between the "thread W1z started" and some threads that crop up in GN? There tempers are lower, people go "you're so wrong..." but haven't resorted to forum carnage (it's relatively calmer, though it could do just a little better).

The whole idea is to shake up the community and tweak its participatory spirit, also for the forum staff, it's a great experiment to see how the community reacts to changes, order, how calm can it be in an "official" debate....so that tomorrow when we start things pertaining to hardware/gaming/software/all things tech, we're a bit more seasoned both as a community and the staff. Also like W1z said, we're starting off with things almost everyone has an opinion on.

It also teaches everyone how to go about with pretty-much every debate, official or not. You have seen those countless GN threads go to hell. Draw some positives out of this one, so that we could make GN a much better place.

A few days late to the party here, but I for some reason love front-page polls on forums. Like others have said, I think they should stay tech/hardware related. Software is ok too I guess.
