Transferring files locally gives only 2 mb/s max - why?

i am trying to transfer files from my pc to another pc through ftp, but the speed is limited to only 2 mb/s... isn't that a bit slow..? my actual internet connection is 20mpbs, so shouldn't my LAN-speed be way more, huh? how do i get the speed higher on local transfers..? are there some settings on the router i should do, or? i've got a speedtouch 546i router and a 100mbps-supported network card on my pc.

I'm a little confused. You say locally but refer to your internet connection.
Locally should be on your LAN and have nothing to do with your internet connection.

yeah, sorry. i meant LAN only. don't mind the internet connection. so yeah how do i increase my transfer so it is not stuck on 2 mb/s or is 2 mb/s my top speed, perhaps? how can i find out what my speed is for LAN..?

What types of connections are the two computers using? Are they both wired?

No need to FTP on a LAN. You can use robocopy to transfer files between computer.
Works great.

I'm assuming Windows machines here.

well im trying to transfer files from a dreambox 7000 hdd to my pc.

dreambox is connected to my speedtouch router, the same with my pc. so yes, they are both wired.

and yeah, im using windows 7 32-bit.

robocopy? huh? never heard of that.

Sorry, I thought you were going from PC to PC. Dreambox is linux based, and I have no experience with it.

I can almost guarantee you that the dreambox just can't handle data any faster than that.

It has a 10/100Mb/s port, but the rest of the hardware isn't going to be able to actually keep up with that.
