Bottom line is this war is more like DVD+R vs DVD-R rather than Beta vs VHS. If the Manufacturers don't offer drives that support both formats, they will not sell any products. LG seems to be the only one to have figured this out with dual formats for both PC and set top boxes.

Unfortunately, we have to deal with it but I think both formats are here to stay. Dual format players will make it a non issue though. The biggest problem with BD is the price/royalties to Sony which will keep the price high for the dual format players for a while. Can you imagine how much BD players would cost if there wasn't HD-DVD? It's a double edged sword.

If we look at who is backing what, MS and other studios, against Sony, and a few studios.......







I believe HD is going to push BR off the side, not because it is better, not because it is worse. Just market push. Consumers as of yet have not made up their mind, and the few that have aren't enough to sway the market. One day someone is going to make a few million cheap players, and a studio will only offer a movie or two in that format and this will all be over.


Sounds like a move MS would make with collaboration from a couple other "sleeping partners".

I have both players as well, a PS3 and an HD-Drive on my 360. Personally I think the image quality is better on the blu-ray. I'm running both at 1080p on my 40" 1080p LCD.

Um.. I intend to use BluRay for all sorts of files and purposes. I'm not very concerned at all about how large or small the movies are. I only wish to have a portable medium to hold my files.

Did you compare using the same movie in both formats? You can't compare 2 different movies, because different movies use different encoding methods and codecs. Some still use Mpeg2, whilst others may use H.264. I have both players as well, and when you use the same title on both formats, you can't distinguish them.
