Tri-SLi, Worth it ??

hey guys,

im back with another question. would buying tri sli be worth it if you are planning to future proof yourself ??

im building a new system probably this year or the next or when i get the money lol ??

and another question, i heard that there is a 8 core processor, i think it was quad core extreme or something like that, can you please fill me in on that ? (with the price)

and finally, is this mother board be worth it if i buy it later on or do you think they will make a better one (from EVGA)

On a 19" monitor, there is no reason for tri-sli. In fact, the benefits of 2 cards is not so great at that resolution. So unless you plan on getting a larger monitor (w/ resolution of 1920x1080+), I wouldn't plan for tri-sli.

There are no octo-cores out yet, although both amd and intel seem to be working on them, likely high end procs from their next gens.

I personally do not think the 790i is worth the money, especially not in your case. DDR3 is still overpriced, they have reported oc problems, and as I already said tri-sli won't do much for you in your current situation.

Now, of course, if you got money burning a hole in your pocket and your looking for an ultimate rig, 790i + tri-sli might be the way to go. Just get at least a 24" monitor first, a much better processor, and a far beter psu I would think. And wait for the summer for the arrival of the 99xxs.

I wouldn't say so TBH. I am on a "mid range" system, but I run all of the latest games just fine. So unless you are building a 3dmark competitor, then you don't need anything more than a single high powered card.

I would say it depends on your financial situation. If you just have a ton of money burning a hole it your pocket and you want yet more performance then that will do it. More than likely your better off replacing your current video card(s) with a better version.

IMO, Tri-SLI is not worth it at all.

A better "future proof" is an ebay account. For the same price of a SECOND or THIRD card, you can sell your old cards, and buy ONE latest and greatest.

• It will have more features
• Better performance
• More power efficient
• And it will run the latest games

And you feel better having new tech than trying to "bolt on" old equipment onto old equipment.

IMO, single GPU's are the way to go. Let's MAKE the GPU manufacturers develop better GPUs, just like Intel developed better CPUs. Dont let them get away with "buy another one" and "buy a bigger PSU" for extra performance through some funky bolt-together-bridge thing.

I agree with every1 on this thread, one powerfull, power efficient card is the way to go. You will only really see the beneifts of triple/quad SLi if you are running crysis with 8x MSAA at a crazy resolution.

Thanks guys, and thnx for the website, really helped me out... i think SLI is good enough for future proofing your self with having to waste money and efficency. 3 way and quad sli has limitations so i think SLi is good enough let alone even a single one is good, i will probably get one card, probably the 8800 bfg and use one until they get more driver support to let out the full potential of SLI, 3 way SLI and QUAD SLI !!!!

and just to be honest, which one is the best compared to gaming....

AMD.......ATI........INTEL........NVIDIA....

personally i like intel and nvidia... what do you think ??

I say Intel on X38 or X48 is the way to go. Get one 3870x2 now, and later on you can pair it with a single 3870. That seems to be the best combo...
