I know there are some relatively successful F2P titles like DotA and LoL and such, but seriously.
Until devs/publishers learn how to make a proper F2P titles, F2P really needs to die a horrible catastrophic death.

I used to have respect for United Front. If this is the direction they've decided on and are giving up on SD sp, they have completely lost my patronage.

Deep down I'm hoping their saying "This is the flip side of Sleeping Dogs", means they are next going to make a Sleeping Dogs 2 on the detective side of things, which obliviously makes for a better story.

The realist in me though knows that usually when devs go F2P, they've given up on putting any effort into an sp campaign with all the writing, AI scripting, and voice acting work it takes to go with.

F2P is a cop out and is always associated with cheap downsized production up front followed by petty micro-transactions to sustain the project. It's part of what is ruining modern day gaming.

At the end of the day though, changes like this are often an experiment, which if fails causes them to get a reality check and go back to what they did best.

So I say vote with your wallets people. If you don't like F2P micro transactions let them know by boycotting it and telling them what you think.

Hopefully they're already getting a clue by the many negative comments on the YouTube page for this video. BRING BACK SLEEPING DOGS!

This just in today...

"...contrary to initial reports, Triad Wars is not the next part of the Sleeping Dogs franchise. Instead, Triad Wars is an expansion of Sleeping Dogs.

When a fan asked United Front Games about the sequel of Sleeping Dogs, this is what Justin Bullard replied:

“Nothing to share on that right now, but we will take every opportunity to explore this universe.”

So despite being a bit vague in response to a SD 2, it sounds now like they're just keeping quiet about it to sell SD Def Ed copies and TW micro trans. Better be anyway, or they'll get abandoned by their fanbase. In this instance I see no reason for non disclosure. In fact they'd be better off telling people up front they plan to continue SD if that is the case.

Hopefully this is just a side project while they're taking time to make SD Def Ed, and not the new direction of this franchise. They also updated the engine though. They should have known the mention of F2P would make a lot of people cringe, but they claim this type of installment was requested by fans. By that I take it they mean the online aspect, and this is likely the most affordable way they could make it, as an in between to their other SD related projects.

Set to launch October 10 in Europe and October 14 in north America for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.


Re-release for new consoles and PC higher quality textures and stuff. I'm not sure if PC will change much other than all dlc included.

Better than nothing.

^It would have had more dramatic effect had they made the trailer in 1080p and not compressed it to shit.

A lot of use were counting on them working on an SD 2 all this time, and maybe they still will, but for now, this is only going to impress those on next gen for the most part.
