I bought an external DVD drive for reinstalling the OS etc on my netbook when I buggered up the install, I also thought I'd be able to watch DVDs from it but when I try to play one Windows Media Player comes up saying I need a new decoder.
I downloaded Media Player Classic to try and get it to work, it gets to the title menu fine but then it doesn't let me select any of the options so I can't actually watch the DVD.
So, am I either missing something here or am I going to need to find another peice of software to sort this out with? I just tried downloading handbrake to rip the DVD but that failed too since it has a minimum resolution of 1024*720...
Does anyone know how to select an option for a dvd in media player classic? Yes, I know stupid question but just clicking on it doesn't work...

Try VLC. IIRC, it comes with all the necessary codecs and libraries needed for DVD playback.

yes, also the minimum resolution you have there can be resized by any media player out there...
VLC is very lightweight, and very good.

VLC or some codec pack like k-lite. Both will solve the issue.

its very hard to find, but the absolute best codec pack is finalcodecs2008.
