Ultra Wide Monitors: What's the big idea?

I keep seeing some nice looking ultra wide monitors from LG. For instance...

These 2560x1080 monitors seem perfect for coding, desktop work since it essentially replaces two monitors with one giant one. I am curious to know what gaming would be like on one of them? The response rates don't seem great and with that kinda resolution wouldn't the aspect ratio be all wonky?

If you have one let me know your experience.

I'm part of the interested crowd. Would love a high res LG or Samsung, but more realistically I'll get a 2560x1080. Had a recent monitor death so I gotta split the budget and get the wife a new one as well. She's on the kids TV temporarily and reminds me everyday how VGA quality is like daggers in her eyes (I really need to find my HDMI cable). Anyway, I think it would be a good setup. I have two 1600x1200 monitors at work, so a single 2560x1080 is very similar with the bonus of no bezel and for games that support it, a great view. Otherwise, plan B is just running unsupported games at 1920x1080.

the 3440x1440 21:9 ones would be the ultra wide monitors to get. LG and Samsung have them in curved and straight models.
