Underclocking, I know, odd...

So, I have an 8350 on a Crosshair 5F, and to help combat the power draw, just a little bit, since I mine while I'm at work, which is 10-14 hours a day, I am deciding to set up an underclock profile for when I am at work and would like everyone's thoughts on if this should work as I intend it.

Currently, I have it at stock voltage, all 8 cores active and running a mild 4.4GHz. Ratio is at 22, and nothing else has been touched, aside from the Core On/Off function.

Since I have never done this, I am going to try:
Changing the Ration to 15 (3.0GHz) and lowering the Voltage to 1.15 (I think it runs at about 1.35 under most usage), and shutting down 4 of the cores.

Do any of you think that I will run into a problem with the boot process? Or should those settings work just fine?

I've done essentially the same thing with my laptop (Core i7-4700MQ). It's a 2.4GHz processor but by default turbo boosts to 34x/33x/32x/32x at 0.95v, so I set it to 28x/28x/28x/28x at 0.8v and it runs noticeably cooler and brings the typical power consumption under full load down from 47w to around 38w. It allows me to run my GTX 765m GPU at 1045MHz and keep temperatures from reaching the low 90c range without throttling on my 15.6" notebook's unified cooling system.

All PSU calculators are rough estimates, and should be taken with a grain of salt. The numbers that jstn gave are likely from a wall monitor

There is no accurate power calculator. Extreme vision has a pretty good estimate though.

they're all useless. buy a wall meter to find out if what you're doing makes a difference - i shaved about 40W off this PC with undervolting, but on my last PC it barely changed.
