Guys I needs help.. You can check my specs and let me know if it's really worth upgrading processor. I wanted to wait for zen but worried about latest games. Mainly I have pre ordered The division, Hitman and farcry 5.. Raise or tumb rider runs fine at high... I was about to upgrade to furyX but decided to wait for Greenland as I heard it will be a game changer..

Help me decide what to do.. Should I upgrade processor ?

Since your motherboard can take the replacement, sure! Though, if you're not having any issues with the 1100T, maybe hold off. Perhaps upgrade after you test the new games.

If you are doing it for a gaming improvement, I say upgrade, but not to an 8320. You motherboard isn't exactly suited to overclocking 8-Core processors(the VRMs are too weak). So I'd actually go with an FX-6300/FX-6350. It should be a fair bit cheaper than the FX-8320, and it will likely get a higher clock speed than an 8320 too. Games will benefit a lot more from the higher clock speed than the extra 2 cores.

I think you would see more gains from a GFX card upgrade than a CPU one. BUT I will also say the 280X still has plenty of grunt to get you thru until the next gen cards are released. I wouldn't change a thing on your PC right now. Zen is coming and so is Arctic Islands.

My exact thoughts! Heck I'm holding on to my 1100T and my 6970's till high end zen and Polaris are out!

I know it can be overclocked if I but 8320. I am already running 1100T at 3.8 at 1.37v and can easily push it. This board is overclock friendly. But my main concern was should I or not to upgrade now. I already decided to wait for Gfx upgrade as Greenland is 14nm and 2x power efficient. And I am ok with 280x for now. I was able to play division beta maxed out 1080p at 35 to 40 but I was worried looking at CPU usage. That is why I was considering cpu upgrade. My actual plan was to get Greenland high end or close to high end max 800$ to 1100$ and wait for zen as it comes with 3200mhz 8channel ddr4..

In India FeryX already costs 1000$ to 1100$.. That's why I said 800 to 1100$

Pick a FX 8300 and OC to 4-4.2 Ghz u will get cheaper than 8320

Also has a TDP of 95w wich let u room to OC.. more stable than 8320 with M5A97 R2.0

nope.. 970 mobo's down clock cpu-nb and the ht-link on 125w cpu's but i do agree the cheapest 83xx is the way to go.

turning off core parking and leaving on c6 as apart of the overclock is the way go in my opinion. core parking is better on intel cpu's just because each core can do more on its own.

microsoft has the thread scheduler well optimized for fx cpu's and its really a wonder to me why they dont show core parking by default in advanced power options.

My 1100T is running @ 3.8 and NB and HT both set at 2.634Mhz and ram @ 1806mhz..

its giving you no benefit. you can set them both at 2400mhz and get your cpu-nb at as low of voltage as you can being stable. cpu-nb is the cpu's integrated memory controller and it can get hot hot when overclocked. keeping it lower will help you get a higher cpu multiplier.

Ok I will try that then. Lower HT and NB to 2400 and overclock processor through multiplayer to 4.0ghz right ?

possible for what you have now.. all about the silicon lottery and cooling.

lies..! the op's motherboard is 4+2 and has heatsinks on it for overclocking strait from asus.

8core at 4.2ghz? pf.. if the new cpu can do 4.5ghz at a reasonable voltage then there is no reason not to if you want to.

4+2 is not good enough for pushing an FX-8XXX cpu past 4GHz. Even with the heatsink, the VRM just can't handle it.

In the case of the M5A97(R2.0) the board will begin throttling the CPU very quickly when load is applied, negating any benefit of the overclock. Sure, you can set it to 4.4-4.5GHz, but it won't run there.

I have H100i water block and even at 3.8 processor is at 35 to 40 max under stress test. I stick to 3.8 coz if I go any higher, fallout4 won't start and Firefox will keep giving crash error. I think it could be because of NB HT overclock. Let me try putting it at 2400 and use miltiplyier to increase clock sleep. For now I have also set bus to 240. So I have to revert that to 2000 and play with multiplayer

The H100i actually makes the situation worse, the VRMs don't get any cooling because there is no fan to move heat around the CPU socket area. It isn't the CPU temp you have to worry about, it is the VRMs.

True, but my cooler master 690 III cabinet has 6 fans to push air out. I have not seen any of the temps going above 45. I use H100i app and Fanspeed software to monitor temp all the time. Also have set notification to know if motherboard or any component goes above 55 as phenom II won't handle more than 60

Let me see if I can post some snaps of my setup and temp it runs
