Upgrade .. Possible

Hi everyone,
As you can see from my specs I am running a Corsair TX650 PSU (Under 2 years old)

Along with a XFX HD7950

I am considering an upgrade to :
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121899
Please note, I cannot justify the cost of a GTX 980/TI
I will also upgrade my monitor soon from the one in my specs

Three questions,
1. Is it a worthwhile upgrade ?
2. Will my PSU handle it ? FX8320 at 4.0 ghz
3. What would my HD7950 be worth ??? (Never overclocked)

1. I'd definitely say its a worthwhile upgrade.whether you go with 1080 or 1440, the 970 should do you right.

2. Your psu should be great for that.

3. Selling your 7950... should sell between 100-120, maybe.

Just be sure to grab a new monitor when you get the gpu because it would be offensive to your 970 to pair it with an HP 19" crapper :laugh:

I agree about the HP 19" crapper. It was my wife's PC.. I have emigrated from the UK to the USA.. I left my PC behind ( too expensive to ship it

) Believe me the pc is way, way better than it was... Hence I am monitor shopping too.

1.) You're looking at almost double the performance, I'd say it is worth it.

2.) Your PSU should be fine, the 970 only uses about 25-30w more than the 7950.

3.) You can probably get between $100-125 for your 7950.

My question would be do you really need the 970 now?

I would say stick to the 7950 for now and look for a Pascal upgrade or something that comes around some time next summer.

AFAIK the 7950 has pretty high power consumption compared to the later revisions/rebrands, the 970 should be quite a lot less power hungry. I would not think you have any problems on that PSU even with the 7950 and more OC on the CPU.

From everything I'm reading (old and new GPU reviews and spec sheets) the GTX 970 and Radeon 7950 use just about the same amount of power, with the GTX 970 using maybe a little less, and the GTX 970 is about 80% faster so you will notice a big difference.

If you sell on ebay for $120, consider $12 final value fee, ~$3 paypal fee, and $~8 shipping fee. Best case you would make about $95 all said and done.
