Are you just installing the video driver and not CCC?....Tried it once to find I also needed a secondary driver. 1950 Pro was diffrent from the way I could run other ATI cards!

heh, this would just give me the excuse to ditch vista for the time being, xp is pretty solid now so I see no necessity in using vista...especially if you want to game...
seriously man I'd def just install xp hold on to your copy of vista for a year or more from now when more kinks are worked out

dx10 was installed...i have also tried to install dx 9

Tried to install DX9??? You should have no issues installing, also download the latest June DX9C Redistributable...it's not too big, I think about 50Mb.

Or if you were successful, the n/m and carryon! :toast:

And it will because DX10 is still installed and Windows Vista primarily identifies it, and if you use a DX9 card you use DX9, your 1950 cannot use DX10. Which is why there was DX9 on Vista when you installed it otherwise you'd have no display.

And it will because DX10 is built into Vista, but they include DX9 for compatability. And you can use DX10 and 9 (at least for now) in Vista, depending on the card you have it switches to what DX version your system is compatable with. Trust me, this DX thing is not the issue you need to chase, that's just how it works.

well ive concluded that its not a heating issue...you say its not a dx issue and i can confirm its not a software issue as it was tested with every version of the cat pack from 7.1 7.5 all resulting in a similar error...so at this point i think its safe to say i have a bad card...

And the 3dmarks worked before you flashed your bios? I don't quite remember if you ran them before or not. You could always run a scandisk, it may find something...maybe.

If your card can play games I wouldn't be too worried. Have you tried running 3dMark 06 on just a fresh install of cats (7.5) w/o ATI Tool/ATI Tray Tools?

Have you tried running 3dMark 06 as administrator?

just to go against a few posts here - 3dmark 05 works perfectly fine for me under vista x64, dont worry about that.

Your low scores really need to be checked out if its a software or hardware problem, can you swap video cards with a friend and compare 3dmark scores?

I'd say your CPU isnt helping, but it shouldnt bottleneck your VC that much. Remove drivers and try installing them in the following order;

1. latest mobo chipset drivers
2. latest VC drivers
3. latest sound drivers
4. re-install 3dmark
5. install latest DirectX

Normal score with your system. P4 3Ghz is bottlenecking hard, plus motherboard are very slow and chipset is trash, not to mention that this motherboard won't support even dual channel. And you're even trying to run Vista on this system?

Ketxxx has a good idea on the install order there.

ANd while a P4 3GHz is slow, i had a prescott here yesterday to be cleaned up, it scores 4400 in 3dmark 05 with an X1650 PRO. No matter HOW you look at it, the OP's system should be faster than that.

P4 3Ghz does bottleneck the X1950pro

I've tried EVERYTHING to stop the bottlenecking in my current P4 system to no avail.
Even complete format and fresh install of windows.
It's the CPU.
That's why I have ordered a AMD 64 X2 4800+ 2mb L2 cache 939skt and ABIT AV8 3rd-eye motherboard to control this card.
The card just really gets away on the CPU at times.
It's too fast for it.

Yes the benchtests I've done have said yes you have a fast cpu etc etc and the results went up as I OC'd the CPU to 3.4Ghz but gaming was a case of give and take when compared to the slower 7600GS.

Okay this is the in game comparision from what I could see in NFS Carbon.
No change in video settings.
7600GS
yes slower frame rates for sure!
proccessing new terrain & buildings not bad a tad on the laggy side.

X1950pro
Very smooth frame rates in a straight line.
Turning corners processing terrain became alot laggier.

So frame rates went up but proccessing the new terrain, buildings became worse than the 7600GS.

Also found CCC decreased performance as well.
Using just the display drivers and ATi tray tools to give me the best performance on my current P4 setup.

In your case it looks like you need to reformat your HDD re-install windows or system restore to a date when you didn't have the drivers in your system at all.

Prescott i believe had faster FSB. Not to mention, dual channel ram, motherboard and os. That is making huge difference. With stock x1650pro on conroe you can get 6.5k in 3dmark05 with eyes closed.

Faster FSB yeah, but this CPU was only running a single stick (1GB) of DDR400. Your point is valid, CPU score does matter - but the OP has a 1950, not a 1650. His score should be far higher.

Edit: didnt see the huge post the OP did, and here we have...

Rate 1x, 2x, 4x
Available Rate 0x00000007
Selected Rate 0x00000000

To me this is a bit odd, didnt you say you have PCI-E?

Can you run CPU-Z (google for it, small app) and check the MAINBOARD tab - see what it says your card is running at (AGP/PCI-E 1x 2x 4x 8x or 16x)
