Mine doesnt have either audio jacks or a USB port. Its the entry level Razer Blackwidow. No fancy backlighting or extra ports.

The USB 2.0 on the frontpanel would work, but then again I'm really paranoia when it comes to cablemanaging. I dont really like have 2 peripherals stick out of the top of my case 24/7 :p

I would disable it if I knew where, I'm probably not looking good enough to find all these options I'm sure. But without any changes it seems to work just fine aswell. (Maybe its disabled by default)

Then just go and buy a USB hub or USB PCI card. There is little else you can do if you dont want to plug your peripherals into the case.

Already looking for a good one that doesnt clutter up my case to much.

Thanks for all the help guys even though it leaves me a bit disappointed with ASUS about there design choices...

Yep, I quite like Asus GPU's, but I'd never buy another Asus Mobo after having owned the Evo, the Sabertooth, and the V Formula.

well its mostly problem of periferial design that asus's. if i now have to buy mb i would prefer the one that has more 3.0 and less possible 2.0 since 3.0 will develop from now on. fail of periferal designers is that they didnt manage to make their 2.0 hardware problem free compatable with 3.0 standard despite it specs are avilable from quite a lot of time.

i think usb plate that ruff0r sugests will fit you best. you can unscrew connectors and spray sheet metal in black so if fit yor lian li style.

other possibility is to check if your monitors have built in usb hubs and use one of monitors to plug you periferial.
does your case sit on desk or it is under it?

it is not peripheral designers problems, it is board makers. They make it so USB 3.0 does not come on and recognise with cold boot, as far as i am aware, unless someone proves me wrong, that is always how i have been led to believe.

Just checked your Mobo Ports and specs, they're mostly USB 3.0, and run off of an NEC controller. Peripherals generally dislike USB 3.0 (as i have found out with my razer black widow). Only way i found of resolving this was to use the USB 2.0 ports that my motherboard has (yours only has 1 but 9 at mid board).
Check that the USB 3.0 power option is enabled in BIOS, and make sure its at the latest version (PS Asus is a bitch)

which one true - peripherials dont like 3.0 or mb manufacturers fail with implemention of legacy support (no offence there, just reminding you how you felt yesterday).
actually it is very easy to prove which one is true. 2.0 boot stick on 3.0 port (i dont have 3.0 port on any of my rigs so i cant test it myself). if mb is able to recognise it and cold boot from it then problem is with peripherals. if boot fails then it is mb fail.

This is how my current desk arrangement is. Hence why I don't want anything sticking out on top. (My headset is currently plugged in on top, its been replaced by one I can use on my back panel so the to panel remains close unless I need to stick in a USB Stick or something)

Do this:

His Mainboard has 4 internal USB 2.0 Headers.
If you can get one of these http://www.moddingpower.de/artikel/usb/usb2.jpg it would help you then.

It sounds like a USB 3.0 boot issue. Adding some USB 2.0 ports for HIDs is probably your best bet.

Sorry for the confusion of words, but at this point i think you're correct in your test. if something boots on 3.0 and 2.0 from cold boot, then its the peripherals problem. if it boots from 2.0 and not 3.0, then its the mobo vendors problem.

driver issue

I had the same problem with my wired keyboard not booting on start when I installed my new asus mb. The resolve was 2 fold. Even with the current BIOS installed. I installed/ran the 3.0 usb driver instructions off the asus cd disk that came with the board. I felt this was unnesessary as I had the latest versions off the support site. That was with windows 7. It is worth a try. I think for me that worked. Then with windows 8, it came with really good drivers already installed avoiding a lot of conflict bullshit, like nothing working exactly as it should, and I can plug anything anywhere I want like it should have always been. If not, it might be a windows power setting issue or sleep/wake problem not the board at all.

@Crazykenny

i was asking about case possiton becasue i have some idea for cable mangement but desktop setup most impotent is comfort of the user and after that is everything else.
so if your monitor dont have usb hub best possible solution is the one that ruff0r suggested. usb expansion plate. this will expand your usb 2.0 ports up to 3 or 5 depending of type of the expansion plate

PS just saw ur6beersaway replay. before buying anything i would start with it first since it offer solution that will cost just 0.5h and realy wort to give a try.

I dug around my old hardware boxes and to my relieve found a USB 2.0 bracket, I think one actually came with my ROG Board. But I'll try what ur6beeraway said just in case.

I'll report back in if the problem stays away.

Just to help the people out who have the same problem. Reverting to a USB 2.0 backplate has resolved the issue for me so far :)
