The only time I would ever buy a used part if it had a nice warranty on it.
Yeah when there's no guarantee whatsoever on the part you can't return it if it starts to become faulty in any way. Drawback for a few more money. And people actually do this mistake to "save" money.
And besides if you don't like nVidia or ATI and would like to switch the card most shops give some a week of try out of the product and you can change it if you're not satisfied.
well win xp takes almost 128mb of ram just to run it, plus any programs you run will use another 30 or so.
when you say you have 256mb ram, in reality you only have about 100mb that is left for you to to use.
after your video card runs out of its measly 64mb of ram it "borrows" what it needs from the system ram and if there isnt enough it crashes or frame rates slow to a crawl.
to improve this computer all i would recommend doing is to up the ram to 512mb and a cheap video card.
this computer is just to old to be good for anything but homework and a web surfer, and a slow one at that lol.
now after giving the reasons why your system is maxed out as is, i think your problem is actually a power supply filled with dust and overheating. follow the guide in my sig and clean the dust out of your computer AND psu. that should get you up and working again. you get working again and we can guide you through steps to make your limited ram as good as it can be by adjusting settings to reduce things wasting resources. after that you need to save up your money and replace your whole system.
when you are ready and you have a budget to work with we will help you design a system to fit your needs.
or you could ask santa for a new computer
We could help in any aspect of that Just list the budget and what use you want and we'd list you up with more than 1 system to choose from
Memtest: no errors after 10 hrs.
I'm going to perform the Primetest, later on. Get back to you on that.
I'm going to take it step by step, guys. I need to find the problem with this current computer. I might have to upgrade some components, so that it is still runnable. As for the new one, yes....i will build on it later. I need to find something decent 'gaming experience', all suggestions appreciated. THanks.
We help as far as we can bro We can find the perfect machine for you whatever you want given that you have a decent budget for what you plan.
ditto. many of us are skilled at coming up with systems in a matter of a few minutes if you give us some things to work from, like the budget and what you want the computer to be used for etc. etc.
Tk is from Australia, he'd be good at helping you out.
I have $100 and need a new system? would you suggest pentium 1? lmao I remember 2 years ago I got a full P1 system at $45 inc. keyboard, mouse & 15" monitor. It's had an AT board 813mb HDD and 64mb of ram not to mention 2mb graphics and 90MHz cpu running on windows 98. I got hold of a second AT based pc similar to the previous one and thats where I used to do for experimenting.
So lets face it we do systems of $45 +++ Budgets lmao
Prime95 test: found error in a matter of minutes.
FATAL ERROR: Rounding was 0.5, expected less than 0.4
Hardware failure detected, consult stress.txt file.
budget: preferably around $1000-$1300
Uses: games like counterstrike, conqueronline, warcraft... (this is the about as far as i go), nothing like doom which requires high graphics.
We'll be working something out soon enough. Anyone up with ideas for a good mobo for our friend here? I'm not good at mobos, but let's try to get him a C2D should be fine.
q6600 x1950pro great cooling on both of em. could improve the gpu cooling if you want. needs a case, the rest i think i've done. not sure how good that sound card is but i heard its nice clean sound at a cheap price so yeah.
whipped him up a quick wishlist, we can mess with the performance some based on cash and what he wants. what do you think?
Seems like a good setup to me. I might suggest a case for that now
Caught my eyes...lol
depending on his wishes, we can increase the cooling on the card to an hr 03, and/or upgrade the card (but he said he wanted midrange), possible go x38 if he wants, though i dont think thats a great idea, needs a new case, thats about it, i wouldn't want to select a case just cause theres a lot of good ones out there and so its up to him as to what he wants ,though i would suggest replacing the stock fans with nice performing fans. i think that floppy cable is uv reactive too..
have that, looks nice, grabbed it, but now im into high performance cases lol . cases i like for performance: cm stacker 832, cm cosmos(sweet for wcing), tt armor, antec 900.. never got into lian li for some reason
Must agree on your case. APEVIA makes some nice smart cases. I just have generic cases for my desktops lol
this may help him, its very recent.
Agreed. Nice cases on the thread.
Why on earth are you people peddling a quad for a budjet build...
cause we had space in the budget and cause quads own!
We didn't give him an overpriced system he just stated what he needs. Also he has quite some time on a quad. Given he's still running 2.4 solo (not that theyre bad Im using one right now) So this guy plans into sticking with his systems for some time.
well lets see what he says about the system and then we can adjust it accordingly.
