I've heard stories that the disc can be used on up to three computers, however I was under the impression that it could only be used on one. Can anyone confirm what is true for me?

Well, OEM discs are really meant for a single computer unless you purchased a license key that specifically states the use on more than a single system.

If you purchased a HP/Dell/Etc, its for that computer only.

Most actually won't even work on a non X brand computer.

I bought mine as an OEM disc, not supplied by a computer manufacturer alongside that computer

Then legally it's only allowed to be used on a single computer. But a lot of people don't follow the legality of the matter. But I won't comment on that.

Ah, well if installed on more then one does it pose risk to either PC system?

    One computer only.

And because it's OEM, you have the joy of repurchasing it if your motherboard dies or you swap it over, as Microsoft defines the motherboard as the computer. Only a monopolist could get away with such outrageous rules...

No 'risk', but officially you're not supposed to be able to activate it on more than one, so it would stop working after a month. In practice, it's a different matter, as you can telephone activate.

The disc comes with one key. One key per system so the disc is good for one system.
