It seems as though hardware manufacturers finally got tired of being forced into AMD products if they bought an AMD motherboard, or NVIDIA products if they bought an NVIDIA board. And so, Voodoo PC (owned by HP) decided to fix that. Using an unknown method, Voodoo is giving customers the option to get either CrossFire or SLI in a computer built around an NVIDIA SLI platform.

You can read the full interview, where Voodoo PC discusses the new technology and makes some "rather unflattering" remarks over the Dell XPS here.

Apart from the SLi or crossfire thing, the rest of the system sounds pretty standard and crap. AKA: nothing us enthusiasts cant already buy for about half of what voodoo are asking.

ATI video cards running in SLI? That is great news! I am pretty sure that the Nvidia motherboards are far more popular then the ATI based boards, so this might actually help boost ATI video card sales. The way I see it, if this option was made public then it would probably favor AMD/ATI. I wonder how Nvidia will respond to this news... they probably love the fact that consumers HAD to buy 2 of their video cards to run SLI.

No, not ATI cards in SLI, Crossfire on a chipset that officially doesn't support it. Ie the same effect as hacked drivers.

Hacked drivers or not .. I see it as a break through against those that force us to run only on their chipsets ... ATI or SLI .. gives us another option in terms of if and when motherboard manufactures as a whole do the same ... I like the idea of running CF on a 680 mobo .. :D

I prefer SLI on my 5000x, the hardware can do it, damn drivers. Then again they should enable both SLI and Crossfire on all capable boards, would make the choice of boards/GPU a lot less limiting. It's already proven that SLI could run on any chipset last year when they hacked a single set of drivers.

Amen... I've stayed away from NVidia for that very reason. My own personal boycott.

I personally like both makers chipsets. Admittedly, before Nvidia made the nforce mobos, nforce2, and nforce 3, we were locked into what, Via and maybe one other with intel thrown in. What a break through that was. Then ATI started making chipsets, first gen sucked, but the subsequent gens were nice. I especially like this vice versa offering. Very nice.

Now if they could only make SLI or Crossfire a bit more 'transparent'.

Currently when I get a new video card, my older card becomes the secondary card for my other monitors (and/or projector, and/or TV) so I always have two different models in my system.

If it could switch itself off and on without user intervention, I'd consider getting two of the same card for that boost in games, while providing me all the outputs that I need when I'm not playing.

Like someone mentioned, the biggest market for high performance setups like sli and crossfire are only bought but people like us who will make out own system anyways. Besides being a fanboy, the nvidia chipsets seem to be the best anyways, and it seems like sli is better than crossfire, so why you would do this? I don't know but for now I think we can buy either a crossfire board or sli

I agree with you there man.

ATI and nVidia need to make it so you can run say dual monitor while running xfire/sli. Their own laziness is the reason we cant run quad lcds with dual cards for older games.

Voodoo... like 3DFX? Nvidia bought them correct? And they found a way to make Crossfire run on an SLI chipset? Someone's getting fired.

yes, crossfire on a nvidia sli board was confirmed by voodoo a long time ago on Rahul's blog. both brands shared a common uli south bridge, therefore making this possible.
