I know this is like the 4th ["WFF"] thread, but it's the most important..

My friend needs a computer, and I'm doing a christmas build for him. Can be either socket 370 or slot 1. It doesn't really matter. The MHz's don't matter, as long as it's not faster than 1.2GHz. (that's all the higher the board supports).

    Thanks! and Merry Christmas.

Thanks for the offer, but I don't think that 350MHz will run XP Pro/ Office too smoothly. Sorry, I'll have to pass on that. Thanks for the offer tho! :toast:

It would all work. Office 2007 would be rough. I've had XP on 275MHz before. Web browsing might be slow.

The point being, if your desperate enough it'll work and the offer is there :) .

    I have a Pentium 3 CPU @ 800Mhz Stock.

Not sure if it works though, pretty sure it does.:)

I forgot to mention, me and his parents planned that I do his computer, and his parents get him the Sims 2, and an expansion pack. He needs something that will play it. Minimum requirement is 800MHz, but I've played it on a 600MHz, and a overclocked and modded FX5200.

I know beggars can't be choosers, but I'll have to go with at least 600MHz.

    I have a Socket 370 Coppermine 866/256/133/1.7v Pentium III or a Socket 370 Tualatin 1200/256/133.1.5v Celeron.

Pick one, pay shipping, and its yours.

I have two P3 1GHz, but newtekie's Tualatin 1.2GHz Celeron is your best bet, since he's in the USA, there's less chance of crap with customs (although such a low value product should fly under the radar) and huge prices too.
If you're sure the board supports Tualatins, grab it, they tend to sell quite well here on fleabay, which surprised me.
If it doesn't support them (some don't, as you can see, the Celeron takes 1.5v instead of 1.7v to reach 1.2GHz, so some boards don't support such low voltage), you can buy an adaptor, can't remember what it's called, what companies made it, etc, wish I could be more helpful there, but if you find it, it'll be very cheap, and will make for a pretty speedy PC (my old PC w/1GHz P3, once all the crap of XP was removed, ran everything quite well, as long as there were no new games, of course)
