Hi, so I have seen on other sites that the 6970s are going under the $200 price range and all have been sold or I was to slow to PM the seller. So I thought I would give it a try here.

Thanks

If I told you then you would buy before I did (not only from one seller but quite a few). :D So maybe I will tell you after I buy it. LOL

Here ya go, 200$ shipped for a XFX 6950 2GB UNLOCKED with transferable warranty.

http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1682592

No, you exposed my secret place for buying cheap GPUs . I looked at that one, but I didn't want it because I think that the GTX 460 and the 6950 are similar in performance. I also don't want to deal with the flashing bios thing, seems quite hard and I am too unfamiliar with it.

But thanks.

A 6950 with unlocked shaders is a 6970.

BTW a 460 is weak compared to 6950 2GB *No offense* 460 is about 7% faster than a 5830

Does that mean that card if essentially a 6970, and I don't have to do any bios flashing, I just plug it in my computer and it will recognize it as a 6970 and will have the same performance as a 6970?

Thanks

The seller has already flashed the card to unlock the shaders so there is nothing you need to do but just use it and also has the XFX warranty.

It will have the same performance as 6970

Can you provide me a link about the shaders thing? Does that mean it runs hotter than an actual 6970? Isn't the 6970 longer than the 6950, so doesnt that mean there are more things on the 6970 GPU than the 6950 GPU? I have no clue what you are talking about, I'm noob. I don't know what to google. :(

I looked at this --> http://www.overclock.net/t/909086/6950-shaders-unlocked-vs-full-unlocked-tested, but it is just talking about the performance

Thanks

Hey brandonwh64,
The seller says this " It is not a 6970 bios just the extra shaders and TMUs".

Which is better as some have had problems with 6970 bios... This might mean he didn't OC to the speeds of a 6970

So its still essentially a 6970 but with not the speeds of the 6970. In that link it would be considered HD 6950 with 1536 shaders and not the HD 6950 1536 SP & HD 6970 clocks. But if I wanted to flash the bios to the "the HD 6950 1536 SP & HD 6970 clocks", its possible right?

maybe not, if his card can't handle the 880/1375 than it wouldn't work, you'll have to ask if his card can OC to 6970 clocks. you don't have to flash the bios, just overclock it, say with a program like afterburner

What he has done is unlocked the shaders but the clocks are the same as a 6950. It more that likely can clock close or sometimes over the stock clocks of a 6970

he reaches the mem clocks fine, which TBH doesn't mean much, but he's only seem to have run it at 840,k so idk if it can reach the 880

I'm looking at this --> 6950 Twin Frozr III right now.
Which one would be faster so that I don't have to tweak the settings and overclock.

Thanks guys for the help

I have a 6950 2gb unlocked and clocked to 6970 speeds just fine no issues and I play alot of BF3, WoW, Call of Duty games. So it gets a work out everyday.

If you buy a reference 6950 2gb card use this link http://www.techpowerup.com/articles/overclocking/159 and follow what the article says to do. Very simple and easy to do.

Biggest thing is make sure you have a good power supply to power it. My 650watt would power it fine but I upgraded to a 850 watt because the price was right.

I have to agree with him, and Nstr

The 6950 unlocked will perform CLOSE to a true 6970 at higher clock speeds
