WD6400AAKS Problems

I built a pc for a friend, and we ordered this harddrive from newegg for the main drive. When I plug it in though, it spins up...then spins down again. While in the BIOS, the space next to SATA1 is completely blank. It isn't "Unknown Device", just " ".

I tired a different sata cable, and a separate rail on the psu. Also tried the harddrive in my main rig, and it did the same thing.

Have I missed anything? Feel there is something I haven't tried.

If not...then off to WD for an rma!

looks like a dead drive :-/ check with a diff HD on the new mobo/psu to rule out anything else 100%.

It happens. Newegg is great about returns and will probably pay for your shipping back to them. I got two 500GB WD's to replace two dead Seagates from a Dell (in Raid 1 ironically). One of the WDs was toast. Had a new one in 3 days and the paid for return shipping.

Edit: Oh I have the same model WD6400AAKS in an external Antec enclosure, great drive.
