I do have my HDD in AHCI mode, but is there any real world benefit to having it disabled or enabled? The Intel RST?

It keeps track of SMART on the drive. It'll notify you if the drive is beginning to fail.

RST, I believe, also has the driver for AHCI/RAID. If you don't install it, Windows will fallback on its default AHCI driver.

Might as well leave it installed then, no point in using an older version.

Run a comparative test with and without IRST.

If you are going to use IRST, then use the latest, as it would have any needed fixes.
