i remember having 7600GS with a 3100+ and it battlenecked a little.
So your best bet is a 8600 at max.
More than that is a waste

Realize one thing when the next machine is built he will take the 6790 to that newer machine.

Also rather than start a new thread for the other PC i wll just continue on with this one.

@ Aleksander, i really dont consider it a waste. Why buy a card now for almost the same price (i.e. HD6450, GT 430) when this is a much better deal. It will still produce graphics on the PC and will def be better than the 8600 you are suggesting. Also a 3100+ is a single core, whereas a X2 3800+ is a 2.0 ghz dual core cpu.

ya doing a lil research the 6790 is a Barts Core like the 6800 series. So it might be possible to unlock it

6770/50 are Juniper XT/Pro

i found that out myself this morning :D its like one site said, it should be a 6830. They prolly didnt want to go that route as the 5830 was badly recieved.

If it comes down to it grab a 6770 or 6850.
