ATI Tool says I have an R423, can I accept that as gospel?

btw I have a Sapphire X800 Pro Vivo with Samsung 2.0ns ram... I can overclock the hell out of it. I can get the core to 582mhz and memory to about 530Mhz with stock cooling (Getting an Arctic Cooling AT5 R2 sometime next week)

I tried to unlock the 4 pipes with a couple of BIOS flashes but have not met with any success, I was thinking these overclocks with 16 pipes would be terrific. The card runs really nice and I can play Oblivion at 1024x768... no HDR :( ... or AA for that matter. I can turn the grass, item and other distances all the way up to max. Then again I could do all this without overclocking. I am running a Asrock 939 SATA2 3700+ no overclock 1 gb Valueram

From the looks of things on the Sapphire site I reckon you must have the "Toxic" version cause thats the only on listed as ViVo and therefore I am guessing its AGP and therefore a R420 core. If its PCI-E then its the Non "Toxic" version and therefore it looks like the R423 core, ViVo was introduced to these cards but only fairly recently, I think to try and give a flagging card some new life.

It is a Sapphire X800 Pro Vivo, there is a rage theater chip on the card, I don't think it is the Toxic but rather something they released to their OEMs, I got it from Newegg.com about 6 months ago, right before the advent of the X1000 series. I was hopping mad when they came out right after. Now I am pissed that I can't use HDR in Oblivion because I only have 12 pipes and I have been trying like the dickens to get the other 4 on line so I can see what is so special about HDR effects. It really hacks me off that I am was so close to the bleeding adge for about 5 minutes.

Well, now... I take that back... it did have a box but it was not a Toxic as you had guessed... not OEM but not Toxic either.

btw it is PCI-E

You do have an r423 they are good cores easily comparable to the r480 but your fuses show no extra pipes, sorry; your clocks should give you an extra kick though, I have a similar card but haven't jumped on the Oblivion bandwagon so i can't say how well it does on an r423 based card but it should be roughly equivalent to an r480 (12p is not as bad as it seems). Your overall system will still have something to do with your overall performance.

 Ok, I am ok with that... I guess I can relax and focus on cooling and forget trying to unlock pipes that aren't there. Flashing with strange BIOS's is a nerveracking thing.

Ok, I got my new Arctic-Cooling AT5R2 and replaced my stock fan and heatsink. Temps dropped from a high of 82degrees C to 62degrees C. Idle dropped from 45c to 35c. I was able to clock my X800Pro to 596/555 and it is stable so far... what should I do to test it now?

Use 3dmark05 and 03 to see what your card can handle. You should be able to pull 5500 or better score in 05 with those clocks, other than that, play some games and see what settings you can do untill you start dropping below the framerate you want. Also if you feel comfortable a little overclock on that 3700 Sandi of yours should also get you more performance. Congrats on the good overclocks on your:toast:
