    Fun.

You need gameplay that doesn't suck.

Zelda for Gameboy is an excellent example.

It starts simple, and leads its way to an inventory of weapons and items that you pick and choose for different situations.

Story- Zelda would probably rock even if it didn't have a story..... but most games need something that "hints" to what to do... you shouldn't have to read 3 books, the instruction manual, AND a weeks worth of in game story twice, to figure out that you need to walk to the cave over yonder and blow up a wall! ;)

All those saying violence and gore, totally aren;t old school rpg'ers xD

I prefer games without gore all over, and heads being ripped off.

Doom 3 is an excellent game, but zelda: Links awakening is infinitely better. You don't need to cut heads off to enjoy a game.

was zelda: links awakening the one for GBA? that game really rocked, figuring stuff out and not able to go to places bec. you don't have this and that... hmmm more quests and prizes, customizable items, but not too customizable that will make imbalances for players tho

That was Four swords, which is essentially a duplicate of the SNES Zelda.

Links awakening was the Gameboy edition, which totally f'ing rocks still to this day.

I've beat it SOOOO many times and still enjoy it.

Too right, Links Awakening on the original gameboy back in 1993 is one of the greatest games I've ever played. It's definitely the best game on the original gameboy. It's so good I've got a boxed original copy in mint condition in my attic :rockout:

But yeah, the key to a great game isn't relative to the color palette but to the amount of fun you can have playing it.

straight up good american violence, blood, gore, killling, anything that would be deemed unacceptable to human eyes and anything in that manner....most games out there arnt violent enough, i mean ragdoll isnt at all realistic, the blood that does happen to come out of the bodys looks like water colors...when snipping others out, it should be more real....and the flat bullet hole sprites on walls, look too fake, anyways, games should just be grumesomly hardcore genocide type violent are maybe too another extreme, make the AI beg for their lives if your totally owning the game......games should adjust to your skill level, not the other way around,
