It's a GOOD system man, far from "trash"...

    :)

(I keep one like it, around the same age here too, still because it's now my SQLServer 2005 rig - On my current rig I keep Visual Studio 2005 & Delphi 7 to communicate & work with it, which is GOOD for those times when I am in a "pinch" @ work & deadline's are looming and I get 'stuck' on a particular issue... as I cannot STAND using terminal services/citrix remote desktops into work after normal hours!)

    APK

P.S.=> You can always keep it around for a 2nd system for various things too, keep that in mind! apk

You may laugh @ me then, but I actually keep (but, rarely use) a VERY old rig here:

    486 Dx/4 133mhz
    32mb FastPage 30-pin RAM (70ns)
Dual WD "Caviar" HDD's (424mb size - driven by Vesa Local Bus TekRam caching RAID controller + 16mb RAM onboard)
    Diamond Stealth 64 VLB video

In fact, it's the FIRST machine I ever bought & owned in 1992 & just upgraded to its max... sold it to a pal who used it as a print server in his company for a decade & it's STILL running! I just bought it back for like $10 2-3 years back in fact (nostalgia, I learned the MOST on that rig imo).

Why do I keep it around, other than for nostalgia?

Because, it runs Windows NT 3.51, which certain things are STILL possible on it (vs. newer OS believe it or not, which disallow certain kinds of softwares from running) on the wire out here, if needed!

LOL, no... it won't do that for certain, you're right.

However, I know that it can knock out anything out on the wire (that solicits connections @ least) & I'd guarantee that because of the older OS it runs.

That includes a system of the nature of my current one (my profile has my specs), because there ARE certain things that no matter HOW much power you have in hardware?

The nature of IP itself is a weakness... & because of the older OS it runs, it's able to, w/ out having to write a custom software myself & I have NO guarantee that'd work either.

Put it this way (again) - newer MS OS put a stop to your being able to do "various things", w/ certain softwares, IP-wise... yes, I've tested it, & it's fact - Newer MS OS' like XP/Server 2003 won't even let you run some stuff over IP (specifically the tcp part), & I rather STRONGLY suspect it's "hardcoded" into them nowadays.

"Newer" isn't ALWAYS better, for ALL things...
