My youngest daughter wants to know what PC Game I want for my birthday, seeing as DX10 is not here yet I want to test this new 640MB 8800GTS of mine (also a birthday present :D), not bought a game since Christmas and am a bit out of touch, it has to be a First person shooter or strategy, no RPG as Oblivion RPG'd me for the next year. I have heard a lot about Stalker and also C&C Tiberium wars.....has anyone got them and can recommend them or got any other suggestions....thanks!

If you liked the original Tiberian sun, you would absolutely love Tiberium wars :).

i really like playing medieval 2:total war. it is an excellent turn based strategy game which includes realtime play where you control entire legions of forces to take over land. btw, happy birthday :toast:

supreme commander isnt DX10 and the patch to add it was dropped. kinda makes it sad, as even on a C2D (overclocked) you're always CPU bound by the sheer number of units in the game

Stalker, CnC3, Company of heroes, Halo 2 (if you have vista)

All great games, all work really nice on 8800's :)

compay of heroes is my #1 strategy game, its not rock-paper scissors, tehre is a random element to it. An antitank gun can wipe out an entire squad of men in a single hit - just like a lucky grenade can wipe it back out. It truly is a game you have to think and react fast, not like CnC3 which is just surviving long enough to mass a single unit type

(Anyone who plays as nod in CnC3, use a helicopter spam combined with the raiders - its almost unbeatable when theres 100+ of each)

    Edit: best comparison when choosing.
CnC3 games last less <30 min in almost every game, COH.... well at the last lan i went to, a 2v2 took 3 hours :p normally its about an hour to an hour and a half for team games.

Infernal is a pretty decent 3rd person shooter. Alot of other good recommendations as well though.

Too bad your not into racing, Colin McRae DIRT looks to be amazing.

Supreme commander is nice, but its on such a small scale. Something Im not used to. Im playing C&C3TS right now, its very awesome. I also am playing The Awakened - a sherlock holmes game that is a year or two old but its really awesome. COH is a must, awesome as hell and pretty good. I cant get enough of it. Well, you dont want any RPGs so lemme see what else I can recommend for you.

I actually like Stalker to be honest. Its sort of RPGish, but the arguement can be made that almost all games are an rpg in the sense you take on a "role".

When I Get home and check my games Ill let ya know. I know I got DMC3:SE for the PC and some others. But I personally like RPGs moreso than FPS

How about that one game where you play as that one guy who goes to McDonalds and gets into an argument about the change when he soon finds out, on the best tech website ever (TPU), that he was the one who couldn't count; leading to one of the most entertaining, self-pwnage stories in internet history. I forgot the name of the game though.......;)

    Crysis gets my real vote!
