IHMO, I'd go with 1156. A nice top of the end i3 only costs $140. With HT its got four cores. What else could you ask for? IHMO, an i3 would even be good enough for gaming, if he ever did.

    This is great: http://ijk.com.au/branch/ijk/product_info.php?cPath=48_540&products_id=127749

As for the SSD, go for a 32gb SSD for OS then buy a nice Caviar Black for storage. Should be fast and responsive.

Yeah, if hes just goin online and not doing anything intensive an i 3 is good. ssd may be overkill though

Yes, jesus they overclock like beasts. The 550 can easily hit something crazy like 4.6ghz-5ghz.

If they are just playing poker and stuff, Get the Athlon II X3 instead, they are somewhat cheaper. Otherwise, the aforementioned i3 5xx chips are good.

for all around i3 is powerful enough, or if its too pricey you could go to amd, but i guess why he asks for intel, is coz he just know intel
    yeah it sad..

How about just barebone ATOM systems ?

I think that might just work. Cheap and easy to maintain also with less points of failure in the future.

dude for simple online poker get the i3 530 or the pentium i3 variant. it will be more then fine m8, I had an i3-550 and it would do 4.8ghz no problem, and that speed isnt necesary for poker. if you get an ssd get them a 64gb at least. because people d/l things by accident or something and 32gb fills up fast bro trust me. get them a storage driver BUT if they dont know to save things to that drive and NOT the C: drive then that is useless. get a 64gb ssd it wont fill up fast IF things do get downloaded. you dont want to have to clean the ssd for them once week do you?? its not good for the ssd and is a PITA
