I finish most of the games that I buy but I'm picky about most of the games that I buy. There are numerous articles out there that say that most people don't finish their games. I can understand this I guess. For a long time people complained that games were too short so developers responded with gimmicks to increase the time it took to complete tasks and quests to give the illusion that the game had more content (time) but it sometimes resulted in drudgery and boredom. Probably that and the thing that also stops a lot of people from completing a game is that they are rolling along having fun and then they run into a level that is so frustratingly hard that they rage-quit. There's a line between a challenging level and a level obviously designed to drag the game time out for a longer.

My biggest problem is I have some games like Fallout NV, Empire Total War, Rome 2, Skyrim, that consume near 1,000 hours or almost 2 thousand hours. Rarely does it leave alot of time to play the others. RPG's and Strategy games are like that...you can play and play.

I am making a huge push however, staying away from them and Witcher 3 (over 200 hours so far) as well, and completing games one by one.

The problem that I have is that I'm scared to try anything new cause I'm afraid it's going to suck. I usually stick to series' that I know. I have given up trying to like RPG games cause I can never get into them. I've read all the threads here about Skyrim for example and how much everybody loves it. So I think I will, but nope. I wish I could give those games away.

Love to say 81%+ but find it hard to do as i totally enjoyed Deus Ex 1, Dragon Age 1, Ghost Recon 1, Overlord 1, Assassin's Creed 1\2, AvP ( original ), Bioshock 1, COD 1, Company Of Hero's 1 well i am sure you get the idea anyways i dislike most that come after them.

Skyrim's a great game just yet again the story is short like the rest of their games so it's more about adventure and side quests than story.

They just manage to screw the follow ups normally like Bioshock 2 was a fail t o me and 3 was until the DLC, andother would be Dragon Age loved the 1st one second was alright and then it was no longer Dragon Age with the 3rd as they had gone totally away from what made the game original was.

The advantage of a multiplayer game like Battlefield 2 is that the fun never end. Its always changing.

My percentage must be single digit  It all started with the Steam sales, then amazon sales, the Humble Bundles,...too many games and not enough time. :banghead:

I haven't even played many of the games I've purchased, let alone complete. Also, I tend to replay my games instead of new ones.

I'm surprised to see so many voting 80-100%, but I bet @FordGT90Concept is in that category ;)

I answered 0-20, because steam sales are a horrible affliction.

Worse question would be:
What percent of games that you buy do you actually start?

And I'd have to give the same answer :-/

Im above 90% finished games.

Some times I play another game, but I allways return and try to get to the end.
As far as I remember theres only 2 games that I havent finished the last 10 years, thats Total war:Shogun II, its simply too time consuming and Farcry 2 that simply to boring.

I just looked at my steam library. 114 games owned. Only 11 of them are installed, and of those, only 4 have more than 10 hours played on them. So many I never even started :( is there a way to send em back and get a refund?

If each play through counted for 100%, games like Mass Effect, Dragon Age, and Alpha Protocol would be >500%. Going by that metric, I think the average would be about 125%.

Only GT i know that really cares about achievements lol. I know i don't they just stupid shit.
As a general rule of thumb, I never pay attention to achievements the first time I play a game. I may achievement hunt on a second or third play through. The game has to be very good and have replay value for that to happen.

Of all the games I've played I've probably only finished a few dozens. The games in my steam library I've completed are like three or four.

I am making a huge push however, staying away from them and Witcher 3 (over 200 hours so far) as well, and completing games one by one.

I misread the question and had to go back and change my answer to 21% to 40%. Usually when I've seen the question asked it's asking do you finish your games that you start. I would have answered most on that one but then I could still be wrong depending on how you interpret complete. In a Fallout or Elder Scrolls or even a Mass Effect game I am never a completionist. To me completing the main story line and a bit of the side quests is completing the game. It would bore me to tears and I would have to force myself to complete every side quest in RPGs. If the poll includes being a completionist in all games then I drop down to the under 21% category.

Don't feel bad if you have a big library of games you haven't even started. Well over half of my library of mostly AAA games haven't even been touched yet and I haven't even bought games from 2013 and up yet. I wait to buy when they are cheap and finally patched. :)

Back in the early days, I was a purist madman. Nintendo, Sega, Commodore, Playstations, PC, etc... I played all the games and I finished them, preferably with 100% completion. It's the opposite now, I still love games, and it's a love which will never fade, but I just play them for a quick fun, and I only have a few hours to play every week anyways.
I start something and I play it for a few minutes or hours and I drop it... perhaps I play it again a few days or weeks later, but perhaps I won't, or maybe I spend an afternoon with it and I finish it in one sitting... It's a lot different when you are grown up (and when you spend a whole day in the server room for example), you are not always in the mood to sit down to the computer at home too, so I don't care about it that much anymore ... I think I only have like 5-6 perfect games on Steam for example and probably I have the same amount on GOG or Origin too. I'm sure I finished a lot more but I bet it's still not more then 40% combined

(Edit: Steam says 32% out of 456 games but that's weird because there are a lot of games I know I finished for sure and never got the achievement for it and maybe the free weekend games bring that ratio down too perhaps?)...

i have bought 2-5 games in my life... so yeah i finished all of them :)
if we talking games played vs finished hm i dont know maybe 50% + if i liked the game, if not its just pointless to play if you dont like it,

Ars did an article about this last year where they concluded that nearly 40% of the games purchased are never played at all.
I've read that one a while ago. Hopefully I don't fall into this category, because the only 2 games I played for less than 10 hours are Batman:Arkham Origins and a new redux of Space Rangers 2 (both refuse to work properly on either of my 4 machines).

Completion rate is at 59% according to Steam, but I blame Skyrim and L4D2 for such a low score.
