what brand and model should I get, depending on the price I'll get a 32GB
are usb3.0 the fastest? I just bought a usb2.0 lexar 16gb today and the speeds are horrible average just 5mb/s when copying a 7gb file, is ridiculous that I get those speeds for a usb2 drive.

For me, i don't actually look for the brand's of USB drives, I just look for the cheapest.

last month I just bought a Sandisk 64GB for around $30, I've had a 16GB Kingmax for years and didn't have any problems.

for the copy speeds, I think it depends on what type of files you are copying and how many are currently writing/reading on all of your USB devices.

USB 3.0's are the fastest, IF you are using a USB 3.0 port.

the problem is that they're slow that's the problem I'm not saying they come with bad sectors or anything like that, when I'm loading ubuntu or windows from the usb I expect higher than hd speeds else the name flash is a gimmick name, I'm only asking for what's right.

So if you guys know what brands recommended, tell me.

HOLY SH*T almost 200MB per sec!

Don't get your panties in a bundle. You will not get those speeds but the benchmark clearly shows which ones rock.

You have to understand how USB Flash drives, and flash drives in general, work. A single flash chip is slow, SSDs are fast because they have several flash chips working together to achieve the very fast speeds. However, USB Flash drive typically only have one, or maybe two, flash chips. So they rarely exceed the speed of an HDD.

The word "Flash" in Flash Memory is not used to denote that the device is fast, it is there to describe the method by which the memory is written. Basically each bit is written by flashing the memory cell containing that bit with an electrical charge, changing it from either a 1 or a 0.

There are some reasonably fast USB3.0 Flash Drives(certainly a heck of a lot faster than USB2.0), but if you want speed I'd put my money towards an SSD and an USB3.0 enclosure.

Benchmark Scores I put a small scratch in my workbench when I moved it.

I have the kingston hyperx 64gb and I am very happy with it. The only problem is it usually blocks the adjacent port due to its large size.
I also have the 32gb Flash voyager gt.
When used as a bootable linux drive they usually outperform hard drives

The best buy is a USB 3.0 Plater drive. 1 Tb you can get for like $80. You will get like 100MBs plenty fast
