What kind of question is this lol? It's a power supply. You use it to power things.

Why would you want to modify a computer PSU when you can buy custom power supplies for all kinds of devices & projects.

Huh?

What is the point of this thread? You asked what random people would do with a psu?

There is only one thing you can do with a power supply: SUPPLY POWER to things.

End of story.

use it for arc welding?
(1000w translates to 83Amps, so i guess thin sheets can be melted?)
normal arc welding typically uses 200amps.

use it in a tank for electroplating/electrolisis/etching.

making hydrogen from water? and selling it to people?

It's basically a proprietary PSU (I know because I tore down a dead XPS 700) and is pretty much useless unless you rewire it for use in a regular computer. I doubt it is even 80% efficient.

Heh, it's actually good to see you. For some reason.

Anyway, don't bother unless you get it for free. Or maybe if you're planning on running something truly massive on 5/12V, but I have no idea what that would be (besides computers obviously).

I was thinking about wiring it for my computer as supposed and install fans in my bedroom and ligths working on the 12V. Also maybe a docking station to charge my portable dvd player and other stuff at same time using the car adapter.

I had one of these PSU that was a Dell in my old Alienware case. Nobody wanted to buy it. Rather than tossing it, I donated it. The thing is a monster anyways.

83 amps at 12 volts, yes. To get a nice arc you'd need atleast 17-20 volts, and at 17 volts it would barely deliver 58 amps, for a while until you fry it anyway. For comparison I weld with pipewire at around 6000-7000 watts, @ 23-26 volts

You could power a car amplifier with it, but this would only be practical if you already had an amp lying around also.

If your interested I got it to work on regular systems. Quite a bit of soldering and wiring but it's well worth it. This power supply is much stronger than any 1000w evga for instance.

Since it has so many 12v rails it's insanely stable even with a super power overclocked i7 on 3 way overclocked 470's it maintained stability with not .001 reduction in load 12v rail.

I got this N1000P-00 for $35 shipped on ebay. With it's 5 12v rails at 18 amps a piece it can handle insane loads. Pair it with a dual xeon precision 690 board and 32gb of quad-channel ram and 2 x16 sli video cards. It really comes to light and show it's true potential.

Really? These Precision 690 1000w psu's are very nice. The fan is loud but I took it out and put in a blue led 90mm and wired it direct to 12v and ground. Makes it nice looking and much quieter and cooler. The stock fan is a bit annoying. Be careful to make sure to release the energy by connecting i believe the green wire to black on the 24-pin for 5 seconds to release the energy or you could get shocked. You will hear the power supply click when unplugged when u connect green to black that releases energy that could shock the heck out of you.

I'm taking this N1000P-00 as it is to run into it's native system board the Precision 690 motherboard. Dual Quad Socket LGA 771 Intel Xeon's with 12MB cache each up to two 4Ghz Quad Core 12MB cache xeon's and 32gb ram in quadrouple channel mode so 256-bit system memory. I bought the dual pci-e riser for 2 x16 for sli and a Chenbro EEB case SR-107 since the $21 shipped MY171 Rev 02 board is fairly large in EEB form factor.

Huge cpu power from 32gb quad-channel ram with Twin Quad 4Ghz Xeon's and 24MB of total cpu cache. It's only going to run about $200 to have a crazy decked out super-rig for gaming. The Xeon's in LGA771 perform so nice it's highly desirable. One X5470 at stock seems to run better than an i7 4770k it seems two X5470's 8 real true cores working together with quad-channel 256 bit ram delivers epic levels of performance on a budget. With each core at 4Ghz the twin x5470's output a whopping total of 32Ghz of raw processing power with about 30GB/s of quad channel error correcting ram. So no chance of a crash, since it corrects these errors on the fly.

Yeah the fans are annoying i pulled that fan first thing 4 screws, 2 wires done. You could put a multi-color led 90mm fan in there and change as you wish with a switch. I left mine at full 12v so it stays cool, and cool it does never ever seems to make any whining. Just a 1ms click when it powers on and makes strong stable sound throughout huge load scenarios. Never seemed to blink an eye like all I had was a cell phone charging over usb. Dual Xeon's at 130w each, and 2 gtx 590's in sli didn't even droop the 12v rail not even .001 of a volt.

In comparison on the $400 evga 1300w made hefty droop under heavy load on the 12v rail. Even the Kingwin's drooped a bit. These x5 12v power supplies are really something else.
