my friend has a crosshair 1 motherboard and a 8800 video card she wants to upgrade her video card for that motherboard. plus she has athlon 6400 2 core cpu she wants to get windows 7 64 bit and upgrade her memory from 4gb to 8gb. any way i was wondering does the 590 chipset have limitations on video cards that are out today?

Nope, you can pretty much expect any board to work with any card as long as it's connector-wise compatible. ;) I'd have suggested a pair of GTX 460's to SLi, but she'll be limited by that CPU. Maybe pick up a card you can SLi along with a Phenom X4 chip, then shoot for an another one to SLi.

I think all modern GPUs will work fine with PCIe 1.0 slot (with very small performance hit).

Be aware that this system may be bottlenecked by weak CPU.
I'd rather upgrade CPU, than add another 4GB of ram. (get used Phenom X4 9950 from ebay).

    Cheers,

yep i think that her cpu is week to bot will her board take a phenom 2 940 its the old am2 socket?

Yeah, AM2+ is backwards compatible. That's the great thing about them. There're a few that still run the original Crosshair with a X4 940. ;)

Fry's had a good deal on an X4 965 combo with a free mobo; IIRC, for $150 so.

Have you tried detangler? Works great with any cross hairs.
