well i know tpu has a paypal account...and i know it might be tacky but you could always get a donate button......they give you the code for the button so i imagine you could change the color what it says etc..so it doesnt stand out so much.....or so its out of the way under misc you could set up a link that simply says donate and have it go to like www.tpu.com/donate were theirs a paragraph saying how it isnt needed and youd rather like them to get drunk but you know at the end say if they want to evey dollar counts and then have the donate button. its on a seperate page and it makes it not stand out so it doesnt make tpu look ''give me money'' ish i think it could work...its better than you coming into a thread and telling people to go to donate@techpowerup.com everytime someone askes if they can.

or just hide it somewhere.

For some reason I haven't seen any of those at all. And Zwinky sounds like something I had once in the service, but time and Penicillin cured it.;)

Edit: Although I have noticed some pages loading slower, and in the lower left corner it says: "downloading picture motherboard_banner_leftmenu_support_reflash_bios.gif at www.gigabyte.com.au" (and that's all I can read of it). In fact, I just typed that while reading it and the page is still loading. Only happens on certain pages here at TPU. Related at all?

Yeah.... My personal opinion is some of those ads are pretty tacky. Ads are definitely necessary, but I think we need different ones.

The ads on the top don't bother me at all. They might be a bit strange, but they're not intrusive. What forced me to start using adblock are the Intellitxt / Vibrant ads. They pop up and block what you're reading, then sometimes won't go away even when you close them. Then when you DO close them, chances are your mouse has hovered over another one. I can take any ad that stays in its place and doesn't get involved with the content, but keyword linking is awful.

I really hate blocking the ads for such a great site like this, so if those vibrant ads disappear I won't mind being tempted to buy panties, diapers, or Bob Barker. That stuff I can handle!

im not bothered at all either. i use firefox 3 with adblock and a few other adblocking progs that i dont remember the name of right now. still.... about once a week i get 1 popup.

all im saying in this thread is... some of the ads are FAR from anything that should be displayed on TPU based on their content. it's just funny... haha funny. not "get that sh** off of TPU" funny.

Meh, the ads are fine by me. The ones that drove me stark nuts were the ones that were in the middle of the threads.

you can disable the vibrant ads in the usercp when you are a registered user
