Tom's Hardware style ?
This could be automated and the post that is flagged shouldn't necessarily be against the forum rules. Someone who is saying unhelpful things or extremely biased opinions and untrue things etc can be flagged and hidden, clearly showing the OP that that person's post should be taken with a grain of salt etc.
I guess, I never really go to TH so idk how it works there... I know youtube has something like this, though they call it "mark as spam"
Is anyone else getting broken images beside every multi page thread under New Posts? If not, what the hell is wrong with me?
Not just you.
I must have been too busy staring at the broken images to see the thread.
ya certain commands appear as regular hyperlinks n not shelled links
yea that's on FF for me
I want the Editorial button to show up in the forum posts as well. Because I rarely go to the main site.
The new subscribed thread function in CP malfunctions sometimes dissapears all, sometimes marks them as no read even if I read them already, sometimes mark them as read even if I didn't, etc does anyone know why or is only me?
I think that's a good idea. Also, if the first post could be flagged as a news article by vBulletin, since it looks like any other post from the forum view and it should be clear that it's a news item.
But I'd like you to go to the main site to find out that editorial/press-release label. That's where we have ads that apply peer pressure on you to buy new graphics cards and SSDs.
I haven't been here long enough to leave any kind of true opinion, but what I will say it I have been banned from two different forums. I was a long term member at both of them. I was just recently banned from Guru3d for posting my opinion on there BF3 bencmark review. Well, that didn't go over well for the site owner and I got a life time ban for it. I also got a perma ban at [H] for agsin posting my opinions on his review style. What frustrated me was the fact that I was a member at both for several years each. It seems that admins should BAN as a last resort or if there are personal harassemtn going on. To ban over a users opinion seems way too heavy handed to me...
At any rate I hope I don't piss anyone off here. At least wait till the 5 year mark kay?
I can tell you my experience...
On the other hand, the mods here are awesome They are members at the same time as mods and actually don't abuse of their power... You can occasionally get away with things, except with erocker because... he is erocker
Can we stop thread-crapping on qubit's news posts? I thought the news section was supposed to be the most regulated. Tell the people that PMs exist and can be used to communicate with the OP about stuff. To add to that mods participate in the crapping (I'm thinking of one in particular)
And then the people who are fed up are thread crapping by telling people that you it is obvious there is thread crap because qubit is posting the news story.
Am I wrong to say that this line has been crossed too many times?
Nah, you'll be alright on here. Just look at the crap I get for my news stories and people don't get banned for it. Heck, I don't think they even get infracted for it most of the time and that's as it should be in my opinion.
As n-ster said, we have great mods on here and while an infraction is reasonably easy to come by (talks from experience, lol) a full-on permaban is pretty rare and one has to be a real dick several times over and have been warned a lot to earn one of those. It sounds like those other forums don't deserve you - welcome!
Yeah, it's a great forum, warts and all.
Ultimately, we have a really super admin in W1zzard, so the good nature of TPU really follows on from him.
I am of the same opinion and tbh haven't been quiet in voiceing that opinion and have commented on a few of his posts in his defence cause it's becoming a trend, trouble is that some members who have been here for 3-4+ years think they have the right to thread crap as and when they see fit and I have seen a mod or 2 doing the same, should be the same rules and etiquette for all members regardless of how long they have been here and frankly people who have been here for years should know better.
But I recently realized that we shouldn't really be defending him in the threads but here, in this thread... Why? It adds clutter to the already thread-crapped thread, which essentially makes it worse, and then they respond to the defense then you respond to their offense
you get the deal... I'm fed up, GTFO our news thread if you aren't happy. You can voice your freedom of speech here or in PMs
+1, there are ways to comment and give feedback, thread crapping isn't one :shadedshu
yeah i agree, this forum is really open, not just the moderators but the members too thats why i prefer be here than others.
its fine sometimes you make mistake. it shouldnt end you in ban, just warn that you just cross the line. except you really want to cross the line thru.
Tell you what guys, I think posts in my news threads calling for thread crapping to stop, whether made by myself or others such as yourselves, has helped significantly. I'm thinking in particular of my story Games: The Push To Online Distribution And Removal Of Your First Sale Rights. With a provocative title like that and the scathing tone of my reporting, I was sure I'd get it in the neck from the usual crowd, but no, they had more of a pop at me in the Thailand flooding thread and that was more muted than usual too, lol.
Thanks for all your support.
heh..really struggling to keep my mouth shut about the news thread crapping...people dont jump for joy for changes they like. To be quite frank, Im tired of all of fox news and cnn news and interjection of writers opinions to spice up a news item. What happened to JUST the news? What happened to informed newsies reporting bland facts allowing me to make my informed decision without sifting through someone else's thoughts off the starting gun? Now its someone who may not be able to tell frick from frack and that person STILL wants to have their opinion heard...
Heh... everything has been editorialized for the sake of trying to draw in more readers.
(Speaking generically for the record)
If you have a complaint about a news posts being too personal, you can PM the news writer or talk about it here or perhaps in the "Our news, your views" thread. Specify which thread and why.
Constructive criticism is always the best option, but also do it in the right place (here) and not in the actual news thread. This is my complaint
I think it belongs in the news thread, as long as it's constructive. That's where the criticism is most relevant to the topic.
I don't see why that should be necessary for numerous "news posts". Personally I feel they should report the info, make the post, then make a 2nd post with their own feelings on the subject. Theres quite a few news posts that involve peoples opinions, and if people start tossing these people pm's every time they don't like how they wrote the article, even 5 pm's per article it's going to add up and be a pain. And it's not like these people are going to re-write each article, so better to solve the problem before it has started.
Myself I am tired of the thread crapping on the issue like some. But, I'm with Kurgan on this.. We've never had a problem with Bta doing the "double post" when he posts a a news post due to the fact that in all, the second post is his "first" in the thread..
I've all ways been happy when I see bta post that second post. I want to hear the thoughts of the news person. It shows that it's a person, and not some bot that some places do have to post the "news"..
In all.. Lets all get along and do one big CHEST BUMP
